false car insurance claim made against me
Last month I parked my car in a public car park, the car park was very busy on the day therefore I paid extra attention to park my car properly. I am 100% sure that my car didn't make any contacts to any other cars while I was parking. Upon return in the evening there was a note attached to my windowscreen, the note was from the driver who alleged parked next to my car and accused it me hit his car (based on some old minor scratch on my car) and leave his phone number.
I rang the number and tell the driver that I didn't make any contacts to his car and I have dashcam footage to proof that. The driver was very rude and said he will report to the police and hang up. Realizing this might have been a scam, I have kept a backup of the dashcam footage on the day.
After a few weeks my insurance company contacted my saying that police have notified them that I have involved in an accident on that day in car park, and they have photos of paint transfers on my car as proof. I told my insurance company that I am not aware my car has been involved in any accident on that day. I told insurance company what had actually happened, and my insurance company asked me to upload the dashcam video footage for investigation which I subsequently did. However, the insurance company told me that it would take a while for them to look at the footage and decide how to deal with it.
I am just wondering apart from waiting for my insurance company, what kind of actions i should take to protect myself? This looks like a fraudulent insurance claim, should I report this to police? My car is over 10 years old and definitely have some old minor wear and tear scratch on it but definitely no paint transfer, does it mean that anyone could take a photo on my car and claim against my insurance without any witness or so? Also how can I make sure my years of NCB won't be affected while the insurance company is dealing with this.

Why worry about something that hasn't happened yet?0

It is all about taking precaution steps. I have never been false claim aginst before and don't want any surprises.0

Why would the police insurance company? The process is to send a 172 request to the registered keeper.0

I have no idea I asked my insurance company who informed them there was an accident the insurance said it was the police based on someone reported.0

What the police aware is an alleged "accident" that I was involved. What I want to report is the suspected scam or insurance fraudulent activity. I'm not sure if this is up to the insurers to report if they think so or I should report it directly.0

There are about 7 million car insurance claims in the UK every year. A substantial proprtion of those are contested, and in most of those, one party must be lying, or at best mistaken. If the police were to investigate every one for possible fraud they'd have no resources for anything else.0 -

Sometimes one has to mature real quickly and realise that what lumixldn says is not always the final say.
Look at it from another angle, an incident occurred and you didn't report it to your insurers near the time, it wouldn't be unreasonable for them to wonder why?
Now a third party via the police have had to use resource to locate the registered keeper.0 -
Because there is no incident happen as far as I'm aware why I would report to my insurance in the first place? What you are suggesting is that if I found a note in my windscreen saying that I'm involved in an accident I should always call my insurance!??0

YES, the T&Cs suggest you should inform them of any incident that may lead to a claim.
Wanna run a poll to see how many readers have had a note left on their windscreen?0
