The sensible ones I know of are 3 to 5 hours which is usually long enough for any shopping trip
But highly unprofitable for any PPC. I would imagine such retailers come under a lot of pressure from PPCs, once the retailer is ensnared in a punitive contract, to agree to a flexing of the rules in the PPC's favour.
Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .

I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.

One local take on having the limit at 90 minutes. Might well be the same at my Ramsgate branch

    Some interesting reader comments too

Not on one side or the other here - but it does maybe suggest that different time frames may be needed for different car parks

It says the proposals are not designed to deter non-customers from using the car park, but to ensure those shopping in the store can find a space.

Those overstaying will be hit with a ticket, but the amount of any fine has yet to be disclosed.

How do they know who are "non customers" .... if you are parked in a supermarket car park the chances are very high you will pop in to the store, even it's for a packet of crisps.

This will no doubt upset a lot of regulars to the store who overstay and get charged.

In my local Waitrose, it's pay and display. You get 2 tickets, one for the car and the other gets your parking charge deducted from your shop in Waitrose. It's a win win both ways

Nice and central that one and used by people to go into the town centre.

I suspect that they see quite a lot of people getting out of their cars and heading straight out of the store car park. Plus customers complaining about the same thing.

It's an interesting balance. As you suggest they may well upset existing customers - why I said I am on neither side, here.

Anecdotally, I was told (see conversation in pub comment earlier) that my local Waitrose used to use their own staff to enforce parking but they stopped it because of the aggressive attitude of some motorists towards them

No idea if it is true (could be pub talk) but when I started going there they did have a booth at the entrance where you either had to hand in your receipt or pay.

Possibly Planning Permission had a codicil that the car park should also be provided for the use of those wishing to avail themselves of other facilities in the town.

I cannot anywhere find a yes/no answer to the question: If I go beyond the 14 days allowance to pay only £65 rather than £100, in order to appeal, and I lose the appeal, will I lose the chance to pay the reduced amount and have to pay the £100? It would seem questionable to offer an appeal, only to charge £35 for losing it.

yes its lost , its a bribe for early payment , whereas the full charge as indicated on the signage may well be £100

so its £100 anyway with a 40% discount for early payment within 14 days

its definitely not £60 , the £60 instead of the £100 is where the maths comes in for the early bird discount (bribe)

however, the full sum is only payable if a judge says so, in court, until then its notional
