Hey I'm a Discus man myself, tried most of the rest , now I' m up for a challenge with 3 Discus in a community tank.
Up to now it's fine apart from a few quarrels with each other, but loving every minute of it.
(Don't get to see much T.V as you gradually turn to the tank when watching some boring film!! I bet you've all done the same, c'mon admit it !!!)
    Heree's to the fishkeepers!!

I have gourami, I used to have other fish too, but one of the gourami is really aggressive and killed them all :( I'm just waiting for her to die before I restock properly. Tanks looks a bit bare, but new fish just don't stand a chance with that one in there. Really strange; I'd understand if it was a terratorial male, but it's definately a girl. Never had that problem with the pearl ones either, they are really peaceful, but this particular opaline is a one-fish killing machine.

Only kidding. I do have two goldfish in a tank, but these belong to my young daughter - her first pets, although I look after them. .

And one says to the other.... how do you drive this thing? :D

Hey Celyn, Why don't you trade the fish in for some others at the store.
Most stores will do this nowadays, plus you don' t have to wait for the fish in question to pop it's clogs, and also get a contribution to your new fish.
    Good luck!!:D
  • *Wow, pink, you must have a big tank!*

I wouldn't say it was huge but it measures 81 x 36 x 45 cm. Think it holds about 100 litres.

I really want to start stocking up again but nearest fish store is 50 mile round trip, anyone know of any decent online shops?

Can a moderator move this where it belongs "Pets & Pet Care" ?
  • Why? Its in keeping with the topic of fishkeeping.

    Read the first post please.

  • How big is your albino shark Pink? Is it a red-finned? I thought they were semi aggresive?

Our tank holds 200 litres but looking quite thin. We are slowly populating it but we are often away and the new arrivals have to stay in quarantine for 3 weeks before being introduced to the main tank. our next fishes will be these:

  • The shark is between 4 to 5 inches long now and yes it is red finned.

Not that aggressive with the small fish but the sucking loach and pictus cat do all chase each other around, which i think is how the pictus broke 1 of his whiskers.

  • Yeah catfishes or any big bottom feeders tend to become grumpy territorial old sods with age: our sailfin pleco is often sporting ripped fins (which seem to heal ridiculously quickly), we suspect he fights with the bristlenose pleco at night. Even though i don't see how the bristlenose could be in his way since all he does is hide under his bogwood, we havent seen him for a month nearly.

Does anyone find looking at fishes more interesting than telly? or even very relaxing after a long commute?
Has anyone had problems keeping nitrates down? i know we do. We live in a hard water area. Would it have anythoing to do with it?

  • I think fish are great to watch. Cant say I have had problems with nitrates and I live in hard water area. I have used those test kits that change colour but they results are always the same so can only assume things are ok in the tank.

What kind of filter system do you use? I have undergravel filter and a out of tank pump.
