There was a process that involved withdrawing the interest at a specific point in time but this has now been corrected.
In my opinion keeping double the interest that was meant to be paid is theft.0 -

@Frogletina, Thank you for this information. It is good to know in advance how HMRC might treat issues like this. I hope you are successful in getting this corrected.
I guess with hindsight it would have been better to let VM correct the error themselves. However I do recall reading that they had asked some people to pay back the money. If this was the case with you it is doubly annoying.
With this new information I should withdraw my opinion that this is theft. HSBC paid me a double switching bonus and when I informed them they told me to keep it. I felt it was wrong so it went to charity.0
