When I'm online I've got a string of Easy Access e-Saver Reward accounts that were the destination of maturing online RSs over the years. All are showing as 'read only'. The guff received today about Store 19 maturing shortly includes the T&Cs for Easy Access Saver Reward Issue 27. The interest rate at 0.75% variable is around the sort of rate for current account money, and could be interesting. So when do these accounts become 'read only' if anyone has kept one of these accounts going?

Just in case the new online issue 19 announced today creates correspondence, perhaps it should be here to avoid complaints. 1% fixed, matures 20.11.21.
  • Had my letter today outlining my options for when issue 19 matures on 2/11. I can’t see anything in the t&c’s about sending in the passbook with my maturity instructions, am I correct?

I've sent mine in. It can't do any harm and it avoids a delay if someone at Virgin decides the passbook is required.
    It comes back eventually updated.

May save yourself time & send the book and maturity instruction form.

I too have a string of Easy Saver accounts visible.  My recollection is that they are all closed accounts - when I withdrew the funds from the account (following the Easy Saver's creation from a matured regular saver), I clicked on the "Close account" button to pick-up the day or so of interest on the funds.

Last one of these to close, sad times. I haven't received my letter yet though.

As a reminder/summary, send this completed form:

...to following address, no special envelope or stamp needed:

    FREEPOST   RTHC-XEYA-BCCS
    Savings Operations
    Virgin Money
    Jubilee House
    Gosforth

I've never taken a chance on not sending the passbook though!

While Skipton Saver7 pays 1.2%, I will not be funding £250/month to Virgin RES19 but funding minimum £1/month initially with a view to increasing to £250/month if savings rates continue to go downwards. 1% fixed in 6 months time might be a top rate.
Of course this assumes you have maxed out all the other regular savers paying better rates.

I opened the online ones 15 and 16 at 2% and 1.5% respectively, but after that decided that the 'up to ~£22' that I could earn for my time (less the amount I could receive just leaving it in instant access, less tax) meant a return closer to £3-13 depending on where that instant access account was on a scale of 0.0% to 0.8%. Nothing against anyone who decides they wish to chase those rates though, just not for me.

Saying that though, since the bottom has dropped out of the rates, likely not to pay any tax this year on interest so changes the equation ever so slightly
