Were they previously about 2.25 or 2.5%, perhaps why I took a bit less notice?

    Yes.

A new issue has been appearing every couple of months and you are permitted to open one in each issue.

I'm intending to open issue 17 this week so will have six running concurrently.

My nearest store/branch is 15 miles away so I need another reason to go to make it worthwhile. Eventually, there might be a few more branches for people to visit under the Cyldesdale and Yorkshire Bank Group (CYBG) acquisition since the Virgin brand will be used on the high street. However, they may not offer the same accounts.

I think you've answered your own question there!

Surely this is just the same rationale as limiting the monthly contributions on RSs in the first place, or capping interest-earning balances on top current accounts, etc, i.e. they're effectively buying the rights to advertise superficially attractive headline rates but want to limit their exposure by restricting the aggregate value of interest they have to pay out.

If they wanted to dish out 3% to a vastly higher number of customers then they'd obviously open more channels to do so....

That sort-of chimes with what a VM employee told me last week. A small take-up account.

That's what I'd been hoping for this year, my local Yorkshire Bank branches being rebranded as Virgin Money and so I wouldn't have to go into Leeds to open one.

You'd been planning to open a branch in Leeds? ;)

I'm still trying to contact the London Haymarket store to get an appointment. Whenever I phone I get an answering machine saying everyone is dealing with customers, so I filled in their online appointment request & am still waiting for them to contact me...,

Send an email detailing your availability for the next couple of weeks. Or if you're close by, pop in to make an appointment in person.
I consider myself to be a male feminist. Is that allowed?

    2 months..................

I'll try that & see. Unfortunately it's a main line train plus a tube or bus to get there so it's a not easy to pop in. I'd need to combine the trip with other things to make a day of so that it is worthwhile. To visit just to get the appointment & then have to go back another day wouldn't be worth it.

Does it have to be the London Haymarket branch? Why not use the Virgin Money store-finder search facility (https://uk.virginmoney.com/store-finder) to find other branches you can get to, then ring them to book an appointment?

My local branch don't answer their phone directly - they use an answering machine, but they do return calls.
