Post office Receipt Showing My Bank A/C Balance

I'm a Postmaster of ten years and my branch is 12 miles away from the nearest bank/ATM so, in effect, we ARE the bank! Did you could say I know a bit about this subject.

Firstly, the facts. Every bank has a slightly different contract with PO. When withdrawing cash from certain banks, including Co-op, an updated balance is shown at the bottom of the slip, whether you or the clerk like it or not. To change this would mean the bank renegotiating their entire contract with PO...probably.

This only happens when you withdraw cash. If you want to pay for something and get cash at the same time, we put the whole lot through as an 'open' cash withdrawal. Goddit?

Then there's the gossip thing. When you start working at a PO, you have to sign a raft of NDAs, confidentiality agreements and even the official secrets act. It really isn't worth risking your job and potentially a custodial sentence for a few bangs on the jungle drums. Also, I tell my staff that a number on a piece of paper is not Ann2 accurate representation of the customer's circumstances - for example, one of the busiest pubs in the area that banks with us uses cash takings for his ATM and wages, so we have no idea what his turnover is, nor care.

    Hope this helps

The Post Office don't do cashback. Also, they don't sell non-PO items through the Post Office till (except in crown Post Offices), other items have to go through the shop's own till and their own card machine.

I never said the Post Office offer cashback nor did I say they would process non-PO items (from the shop) with the PO terminal.

By using a Post Office counter, It implied that your bank will share some private information but also PO staff aren't allowed to divulge private information .

Are you actually suggesting she/he is acting improperly?

Sorry to bump a thread that's a couple of months old, but having read your response and some others on here, there are some, including you, that seem to completely miss the point!
Just because PO staff aren't allowed to do this or aren't allowed to do that, doesn't mean to say they abide by those rules, no matter what the risk involved!
Personally, if I needed to carry out some financial transactions in my local PO, and I happened to recognise one of the staff working there, as being very local to me, AND known to me, if possible, I would either try to ensure I didn't end up dealing with that member of staff, or I would walk out the PO and go somewhere else!
