however what you could do is contact your bank and ask if this is normal or if there's any way you can avoid it showing.
Already done. When I phoned the bank they referred me back to the Post Office but they are closed just now.
I suspect it's nothing to do with the OP's bank, they will almost certainly include the balance in the data returned to the PO when the request is made, and it's PO who have decided to print it on the receipt.0 -

Withdrawal receipts from Co-op bank using the P.O. do not show outstanding balance or daily available amounts. It is possible to ask for this as a separate request.
Perhaps the cashier (with a penchant for hats) pressed the wrong button.
How many receipts did the O.P. receive?
It was the Co-op debit card I used as that is who I bank with, I got the receipt for proof of postages & a seperate receipt for cash back with my bank account total on. I have had cash back & paid cash in at Post Offices but I have never had my total shown on the receipt.0 -

...but they don't know how many bank accounts she has or how much is in the other ones.
Why should they know what I have in any account?
I'm not willing for a Post Office worker to know what I have in any account. I didn't give it to them. They obtained that information without my consent. The bank did not tell me that they would share that information with others. If I would have known that that was going to be the case I would not have used that particular Post office.
It is seriously out of order in my book. And if this is standard practice then they should tell their customers that that is happening so that they can choose to go elsewhere.0 -

Instead of going to a P O Counter why not use an ATM?0

It wouldn't bother me, but it does seem to be contrary to the spirit of data protection, which is that people should know when and how their data will be shared.
I think I would put the complaint in with your bank. They are the data holders and its their responsibility to make sure that your data is treated appropriately.0 -
By using a Post Office counter, It implied that your bank will share some private information but also PO staff aren't allowed to divulge private information .
Are you actually suggesting she/he is acting improperly? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

I didn't wish to deal with my local P.O so phoned the number the bank gave me of the PO HQ. It was a recorded message & was cut off so went back to the bank call centre & spoke with a customer service & she lodged it as a complaint as really it is the bank's who have allowed that info to be shared - I think? Although she said that she didn't know personally how/if they could. She said that someone will get back in 5 days or before.
I will wait and see what the bank have to say. I am aware that the PO is not able to do some banking but surely they should not have access to my bank balance amount? If they now have that capability - which it looks like they do - I should have been told.0
