Post office Receipt Showing My Bank A/C Balance

OP - did you read post number 9 from Sheramber? (you have not commented on it so not sure.
Came from Yorkshire bank re Post Office cash withdrawals but I imagine same would apply to Co-op. For Yorkshire customers it is made clear a printed receipt will be produced.
Think this will be a case of like it or lump it I'm afraid.0 -

Convenience, perhaps? In my case, the closest Post Office is half a mile away, the closest ATM 10 miles away...0 -

If you have a high balance in the account you would like to keep private and bank online having separate accounts for savings and daily use is easy to manage.
One cashier in my post office often checks the postal receipt before handing it to me. This woman may have just been checking the amounts were right.
Thanks for the link.
Yes, it was my current account which is healthier than it should be. So that is a timely reminder to switch some money into my ISA.
I was just withdrawing/getting some cashback after using my card to pay for postage. I've never been keen to bank on-line. I don't feel it's as secure. I do do telephone banking however. As I say I don't usually use this PO unless I really have to but never had a receipt with my bank balance showing on before.0 -

Yes, I have just clicked the link & read that - Must admit I'm a bit gobsmacked as I had no idea that was the case. It's never happened before so I guess something has changed & I haven't read the small print. I'll get clarification from the bank in the next 5 days according to the woman I spoke with today.0 -
I live in a small locality & really don't want my local shop knowing what I have in the bank..My nearest PO and shop is 10 miles away.I was just withdrawing/getting some cashback
Having read this thread OP, I'm not sure whether you got cashback after making a purchase at a shop or a withdrawal at a Post Office counter. You've mentioned the Post Office in the title and said you don't want your local shop knowing how much money you have but also that your nearest Post Office is 10 miles away? Can you clarify which it was for the avoidance of doubt.0 -

It's a Post Office/shop - they sell groceries, newspapers etc as well as it being a post office. It's the only shop in the area which is still 10 miles away from where I live & the nearest PO. The next PO & shops are 30 odd miles away. There is no ATM for 30 add miles. There used to be one 22 miles away but it was ripped out of the hotel entrance it sat in & hasn't been replaced. It was the crime of the decade in this area.0 -
If it was in the city I wouldn't mind but the woman who served me is the nosiest, most gossiping woman this side of goodness knows where. It's like an illness with her. If you've ever seen 'Still Game' think Isa but with a different accent.
She'd want to look up yer bum to see if your hat was on straight. Anyone new going in gets the 3rd degree - she's unreal.Yes, it was my current account which is healthier than it should be. So that is a timely reminder to switch some money into my ISA.
She doesn't have an assistant called Lisa by any chance....?0 -
Speaking from experience:
They'll have seen sixty other balances that day. They don't care. It just turns into random numbers on a receipt after a while. They probably didn't notice it.
Same way as if you pay £1,000 into a bank, that could be a very important £1,000 to you but to the cashier it's just another grand to sit in their drawer alongside the other ones. It just turns into abstract objects and characters after a while rather than money.
Most people overstate their own interestingness and importance to cashiers. Seems a bit silly to use the Post Office for financial services and then object when they handle financial information.urs sinserly,

You've never met this woman.
I didn't know that she could see how much I had in my account. If I did know that I would never have used my debit card in this PO0 -
This happened to me years ago (perhaps 8 or 10 years ago) when I withdrew cash at a Crown Post Office using a Santander debit card. The same thing happened a week or so later. After that things returned back to normal with no balance shown on the withdrawal slips.
I have no idea why this happened. A fault in the system for a few days perhaps.0
