I turned 34 today! Don't feel any different, just have the same plans as I've put in my yearly update 😃
I did a birthday stream yesterday and played a horror video game! My screaming at every jump scare proved popular and I made over £100! That added to my birthday money today took me up to £300, so I went a little bit potty and used £700 from my savings to make a £1000 overpayment to the mortgage as a birthday treat to myself! Probably wasn't the most sensible thing but I blame all the sugar from the birthday cake my mum made me! 😂
We've had a lovely chilled out day and my parents are treating us to a pizza for tea. Yesterday morning we met up with my best friend and her son and dog for a socially distanced walk around a local lakes/park. It was lovely to see her after several months. Tomorrow we have another day off work and plan to go to the local garden centre, my mum wants a flowering shrub for her 60th birthday next week and then I plan to finish her cross-stitch birthday card.
Not a lot else to report really, so have a lovely afternoon/evening x

Belated happy birthday Jessy! £100 for playing a video game is amazing! And you’d be a lot else off in your emergency fund if things had been worse with the dog, so I think that’s fair enough!
It sounds like you had a lovely day.Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

Thanks NG
Well, I've had a horrid couple of days returning back to work after my birthday. I got to work from home on Thursday but there was a ridiculous amount of emails, things that had gone wrong with jobs while I was off which I have been blamed for and then I got a message from my work bestie saying he had had a meeting with the M.D. and HR as he is being made redundantHe sits opposite me, is a 61 year old man but we have become good friends and he is one of very few redeeming qualities of my job, so I'm gutted. They are trying to find him another job in the company but he'll no longer be based in the office with me. I have my fingers and toes crossed that they can keep him. When I did go back into the office yesterday someone was already sat at his desk and has cleared his personal effects because a new person is starting next week!!! Basically they're making people that have worked there years redundant, whilst hiring new staff at the same time! I wrote my notice out at lunch ready to hand it in but was talked down by BF and him being sensible! I just want to leave but I know I should be grateful that I have a job, it's just such an awful place to work.
Sorry for the rant, just needed to get it out!
Anyway, in more positive news, the reason I worked from home Thursday was because I had to wait in for the gas supplier to come and FINALLY fit the meter to the side of the house, it took all of 15 minutes, so I was a little annoyed they had put it off for so long but it's done! I messaged my plumber and he will be looking to come at the end of July/beginning of August to rip out the awful electric boiler and fit a nice new gas one! Woohoo!
The mortgage balance is now £64,446.79. My goal is to get below £62,000 by the end of the year because that would be £10k in 18months. My super duper goal is to get into the £50,000s by the end of the year. Either way I'm going to start by paying that pesky £46.79 off, I like my figures to end in 00s!
Have a lovely weekend! XMortgage Balance as of July 2025 £14,900.

That's awful about work Jessy ☹ They can't just make someone redundant and then put someone else in place doing the same job, the role has to be no longer needed (you can probably tell I've been reading up on this!) I hope the new person is OK 😐
Congrats on getting the meter fitted, and at least you got to work from home for the whole day even if it did only take 15 minutes!Mortgage start: £65,495 (March 2016)

Great news about the gas - it seems so long ago that you were talking about getting it done!
I second what SC said - is it worth making sure your friend knows- he could take them to tribunal for unfair dismissal - if they find in his favour (which it sounds like they would) it would be worth a fair bit of money to him.Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days
