Morning! Happy weekend!
Well, there's not a lot to report. Been going into work still so at least I will have a full wage at the end of this month. BF has been called back into work starting Monday, so that's a relief. Unfortunately, this month will be an expensive one with two nephews having their birthdays, fathers day, my mum's 60th birthday at the beginning of July and dog 1 being at the vets. Dog 1 went for his booster and a check up which was £29 so not bad and the vet says he is in top shape but we've noticed his head seems to have lost muscle and it's more bony and sunken round his skull. The vet said it could possibly be him getting older, he is 8 now or it could be something neurological, so he is seeing a specialist on Thursday. Fingers crossed it's nothing serious but if it is, then it's what I pay insurance for. My priority is to make sure he isn't in any pain, which I'm sure he isn't because he has no problem with you touching him and he is his usual self.
We've decided to brave a trip to the pet department of the local garden centre today, the budgie needs some bits and the outside birds need their sunflower hearts and mealworms! (Feeding the birds could prove an expensive hobby!) 😂
Have a great weekend xMortgage Balance as of July 2025 £14,900.

Oh Jessy, I wasn’t expecting you to say that I’m so sorry for your poor doggy ☹️ I wouldn’t have thought it was even a thing for pets to not be covered for illness, how strange. You must be so worried about him and the vast cost certainly makes things even worse. £3k is so much, is that a worse case scenario? Fingers crossed for the results on Thursday xMFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁2

Thanks NG ❤. I thought the same as you about the insurance and should have read it through properly. The blood tests today have cost £312. If they don't show anything he will need the biopsy and MRI scan which is at a specialist vets in Newmarket and what will cost £3k to do, so I'm praying the blood tests tell us what's wrong. He will then need treatment for whatever is wrong. At the end of the day I will pay what I have to to make him well again, he is my baby. Now I just have to be a proper scrimper and not spend a penny on anything unnecessary!Mortgage Balance as of July 2025 £14,900.

Oh blimey! Do they they know you don’t have insurance? As our local vet (whom no longer use) asked me to sign for our dog’s operation years ago when they took her in, which I did not have, suddenly I was told she would not need most of the tests they were about to do. I’m sure this would not be the case with you, but thought I’d mention it. It’s hard when it’s your pet and you want the best care.MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁2

Oh Jessy, that’s rotten news - how annoying about the insurance! Let’s hope the blood tests show what’s happening and it’s simple to fix.Are you still back in work full time?Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

Thanks NG. Yeah, I told them I'd made a mistake with the insurance and I agree with you, I'm sure they add extra tests and medication on when they find out you have insurance!
Thanks vix, I hope so too. Yeah, I'm still back full time, my supervisor was kind enough to let me work from home yesterday so I could keep an eye on Dog 1 after his blood tests. It was amazing how much work I got done when I didn't have to answer the phone!
Thanks SC, I appreciate your kind words xMortgage Balance as of July 2025 £14,900.

Yearly Update
Well, we have been in the house for a year now, so I thought I'd do a yearly update!
Mortgage Amount June 2019: £72,000
Mortgage Amount June 2020: £65,800
Difference: £6,200
Amount in Overpayments: £4,734.46
Interest Saved: I've only just started calculating this and it was £627 for the last quarter, so I've probably saved over £1000 in interest in the past year.
Savings Amount: £6036.39 (Soon to be annihilated by vets bills and a new boiler but hey ho, that's what it's there for)
Pension: £2,669.13 (Not very impressive, so once I have my savings targets reached I will work on this)
Targets for 2020-2021:
Make over £5K in overpayments towards the mortgage.
Make sure the EF savings account is £5K plus
I've set up a new savings account for vets bills so that I can cancel the pet insurance. I would like this to be £3K plus
And overall, I want to be more positive about my life. I need to appreciate that I have a wonderful partner, I'm surrounded by my family, I have my own little house and I'm sensible with my money. I would like to ensure that we go on little holidays around the UK, we have a nice big tent so we need to make sure we use it and enjoy being able to go out and see the sights while we are able to. Live to work, not work to live!!
Take care and stay safe x
