Well done on the grocery budget! I agree with SC that work seem to value you, which can only be a good thing - even if it’s not your dream job.

I would love to make long term plans but knowing we will move at some point and being self employed makes it tricky to plan. In the meantime it’s just a case of throwing money into mortgage, pension and investments. Looked at Rightmove last night and there were some nice houses in it, but the thought of trying to get house in market at the moment fills me with dread!
Thanks Vix. I'm with you on that, I was looking over stuff last night and thinking how we will want to move house at some point, so at the moment instead of a financial plan, I'm going to just stick to my aim of paying off this mortgage or thereabouts by the time I'm 40 (in 6 years). Hopefully by that point me and BF will have saved up a good deposit for our forever home, and enable us to keep this house as a rental. We will then use the rental income to overpay our mortgage on the new house. Then if we don't want to rent it anymore we would still have it to sell and can use the money towards our retirement. I like to think this all sounds quite sensible, I just don't have the maths skills to work out the figures 😂

Morning Jessy, I think it’s already been announced that furlough will still be at 80% , but from August the employer will have to contribute to paying it , but with a strong possibility you can go back part time so that could be helpful for your employer as they still have work for you?
Thanks NG, I had heard that too but not sure what my employer will do! I think I will be working as normal from now on and I'm trying to be more positive about my job! My supervisor actually asked if I wanted to work from home this afternoon as I was updating our stock system from a data spreadsheet, I jumped at the chance and spent the last 2 1/2hrs working at my desk, in my nice comfy chair and BF bringing me cups of tea! Lovely!

We've had an Indian for tea tonight as it was me and BFs 2 year anniversary this week. It was pretty much free as BFs mum gave him £25 for his and boyo's food but it covered most of mine too with just a fiver to pay. It was yummy!!

Have a lovely bank holiday weekend!

Take care and stay safe x

    Afternoon MSEs!

£5.44 cashed out of prolific this morning and a couple more surveys completed to get me started on the next one. A few done on other survey sites too.

Went to see my grandparents yesterday as my nan has a new pay as you go SIM in her phone that she couldn't get working. Turned out she hadn't put any money on it yet and therefore couldn't make any calls! I had her leave everything in the conservatory with some wipes so I could clean before and after. We then talked through the closed sliding door. I really wanted to hug them!! She gave me a jigsaw that she had completed, so that I could do it too but now I'm back at work, I'm not sure when I'll get the time.

I took the washing round to my parent's house yesterday, making use of their washing line to dry it. It smells fresher and saves me electric by not having the dryer on!

BF and I were talking about my birthday at the end of June, as I don't want anything he has offered to give me some money to make an overpayment to the mortgage, that made me very happy!

Yay for BF! Great that you're on the same page with money, it must make things so much easier.

Love the idea of your Nan getting the new sim but not putting any money on it 😂!

Thanks SC. It really does, I'm using my extra money to overpay the mortgage and he's putting his into a help to buy isa, so it can go towards our forever home. Where that home will be, we haven't quite decided on! I love being in my home village, I moved back here to be closer to my family but my grandparents are in their 80s now and it depends on how my mum's MS progresses. Ideally we would like to move down to Devon or Cornwall, but we'll see 😄

She was trying to ring my brother to get some eggs from his chickens but couldn't! She'd even bought a voucher to put money on the phone but couldn't find the number to call to use it (it was printed on the voucher!) Personally I don't think she'd put her specs on! 😂

    Happy weekend people!

I've checked the mortgage and they've taken off my OP and the normal amount already, so the new balance is £65,796.79. I've made a small OP of £46.79 today to round it down to £65,750 and crossed the £66k box off the chart! Woohoo! BF asked me how much money I want for my birthday to OP,  I jokingly said 'A thousand pounds so I can cross off another box, please' 😂 In all seriousness the smallest amount can make a huge difference, the small OP I did today will save me £59 in interest in the future, so to quote the famous supermarket, every little helps!

I started to look for my home insurance today as the renewal is due 28th June. I found one for £30 cheaper than this year's! I went through to the company website and was about to pay when I was told I couldn't go any further online and needed to call them. 45 minutes later it turns out I can't get the insurance because there is an open claim from my current provider dated August 2019. Another half hour on the phone to my current provider and they can see an open claim but no details or amounts, err.... yeah cos I've never made a claim!!! I now have to wait until Monday to be contacted by another team who can remove it. Why is nothing ever simple?! They also cannot match the price of the new quote so I definitely want to switch provider.

I got the correct wages from work so that was nice but they have now decided that everyone can't keep all of their holidays to take for the rest of the year, so you will get what you accrued in the furlough in next month's wages. This means that I will lose 2 days holiday to take but get paid for those two days at the end of the month. That's fine with me, I still have 10 days to take and will have 2 full weeks off over Christmas. We won't be going anywhere on holiday which is a shame but the money saved can go into OPs and savings, so we will be in an even better position financially. BF is still furloughed so I do still want to be careful with money anyway.

    Have a lovely weekend x

I hadn’t thought about time off at work, it seems strange to think of accruing holiday while on furlough!
