    Happy new year Jess!

It sounds like you've had a lovely festive period (bar the COVID recovery). We were in Suffolk over Christmas too, lovely to see the sea again even if the weather was a bit blowy!

Wishing you all the best for 2024 ☺️
    Thanks merryhen x

I got my new mortgage deal sorted. A 5 year fixed rate at 5.04% and a monthly payment of £239.66. It's £30 less than I'm paying now and I have the 20% overpayment allowance every year still.
Unfortunately, the interest rate isn't as low as I had hoped, so has scuppered my plans of paying off the mortgage by my 40th birthday in 2026, but it is what it is and I will still be paying it off asap and hopefully still within this 5 year fixed rate.

    DON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff.    Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

It was on the market for £85K but I got it for £78K and I have a £6K deposit so my mortgage will be for £72K.

I am so jealous of your tiny mortgage.  Out of interest where did you move to?  I had no idea you could still buy places so cheap. If I had your mortgage I would clear it in about 3 years.  For now I have to keep chipping away at mine, as with the over payments I knock about 25k off per year, but it's a slow road to mortgage freedom!

Hi, I've spent the past week / fortnight reading from the start and am so impressed with how much you have repaid so far.  I am sure it wont be long before it is fully paid off.

As my DS is always playing video games I have told him to look into streaming, to see if he can make a little money.  Maybe this would be his perfect part time job
Good to see you slm and thanks for reading all of that! 🙂

Hi, I live in a village in South Lincolnshire, it is a 1 bed end terrace bungalow, with no garden and no parking, so not really anything to be jealous over, but it's nice and cosy and was a place I could afford on my own.
