All this talk of roundabouts has reminded me - is anybody else familiar with the "Magic Roundabout" in Hemel Hempstead? My Granddad used to drive all the way round it clockwise even though he just wanted to go one exit anti-clockwise :rotfl:

Really? Must be something in the water where you live, I've never seen anyone *not* do that.

Happens all the time here in Louth. What makes it worse is that it's a low-lying Georgian town with narrow streets and a Town Roads Plan designed by a psychotic drunk. Several mini roundabouts are just free-for-all race track obstacles. On market days, (x3 a week) one stoppage in traffic, on one street, brings the whole town to a halt within 15 minutes.
I think this job really needs
    a much bigger hammer.

Watch youtube dashcam clips, going straight through give ways on a mini (or even driving straight over) is very common and a cause of frequent near hits

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

That moment when all three drivers approach a mini roundabout at the same time...if you're not going, I am!!;)

And yes, I've negotiated the HH Magic Roundabout!!! Best done with your eyes closed!!!;);)
How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)

You could always not cross a roundabout and instead cross the roads branching off it :p
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride

My (very) elderly father always indicates left on approaching a roundabout on the basis that as he turns onto the roundabout he is turning left.....

He generally then leaves his (left) indicator on irrespective of which exit he plans to take (too many other thigs occupying his attention), but then remembers to indicate right (if he's taking the last exit) at the last minute..............

I'm afraid I've given up banging my head against that brick wall and just close my eyes now, though I feel a letter to DVLA coming on.

I think your dad is ahead of the curve. I've been thinking of adopting the exact same philosophy for roundabouts because of the number of t.wats that think it's okay to sweep around the outside (ie undertaking) and stuff you up when you try to leave at the exit! Usually BMW drivers but not exclusively so.
Excellent idea, just indicate left the entire time!
Funnily, i've been pondering a small Caddy sized van to facilitate a side project i'm going to work on. I havent seen much movement yet, but in theory markets like pickups and vans are likely to be hit by the upcoming downturn.
Would be interesting to hear if anyone has direct experience?

Why? So you can argue with them?

Three pages of problems at roundabouts - is it really that difficult?

I think you're referring to the Hanger Lane "Gyratory". That is not a roundabout, it's a one-way system.

You got me worried there for a bit by fortunately Wiki says that the " Hanger Lane gyratory is a large, complex roundabout" so we're both right. The essential is that they are both circular(ish) , multilane one way road systems
