Ignorant drivers are roundabouts in the driving test anymore?
I've just followed a car whose driver doesn't seem to have quite grasped the idea that indicating at roundabouts is supposed to tell other drivers your intentions.
From there the road filtered onto a larger dual carriageway with a 50 limit and they raced off ahead and took the next roundabout in the left lane indicating right.
I passed them on the following roundabout, as I was in the left-turn filter lane.
Where does this idea come from that you indicate right at roundabouts when you are going straight on?
- Roundabout #1: Two exits (1st exit = straight road, 2nd exit = 90 degrees to right); driver indicates right and takes 1st exit (straight).
- Roundabout #2: Two exits (1st exit = 90 degrees left, 2nd = straight); driver indicates right and takes 2nd exit (straight).
- Roundabout #3: Three exits (left/straight/right); driver indicates right and takes 2nd exit (straight).
- Roundabout #4: Three exits (left, straight into 2-lane dual carriageway, right); driver indicates right and takes 2nd exit (straight) into right-hand lane.
- Roundabout #5: Three exits (left, straight into 2 lanes, right); driver takes right lane and indicates right, I stay in left lane and have to brake as they cut across the roundabout lanes and take the 2nd exit (straight).

I have a friend who does that. Taught by a friend years ago. He's now in his 60's and has no interest in learning the correct procedure.0

Where we're you headed?
Straight on? Then take the left lane of the 2 lane road. No problem
Right? Why were you in the left lane?
You do realise that for intermediate exits I.E. those between left and right then you take the appropriate lane. If you want to be in the right hand lane of the exit you want then the right hand lane would be appropriate0 -
Driving standards on the whole are in sharp decline imo.0

I only ever treat indicators as an indication of probable action, I suspect that's why they are called indicators. Never believe an indicator (that's in the highway code) & never go round a roundabout beside another vehicle.Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.0

There are driving instructors who tell learners to indicate right when entering a roundabout if they intend taking the second, straight ahead, exit!!!
I know this from asking my kids why they doit.
Apparently it is to tell anyone coming from the first entry not to enter the roundabout!0 -
As a keen biker a flashing indicator just tells me the bulb is working.Funnily, i've been pondering a small Caddy sized van to facilitate a side project i'm going to work on. I havent seen much movement yet, but in theory markets like pickups and vans are likely to be hit by the upcoming downturn.Would be interesting to hear if anyone has direct experience? Why? So you can argue with them?0

Its not just indicators on roundabouts. Some people seem to just pick at random which lane they should be in. Even when there are signs or markings telling them what the correct lane is.You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0

There is a roundabout near me that is about to undergo its third multi million pound redesign in five years.
All because people can't seem to use it properly by sticking to the correct lane and indicating.0 -
BMW drivers have never heard of indicators0

I use 2 small roundabouts in the countryside, a lot of commuters. Visibility of the 4 roads leading off it is poor due to hedges. Yet drivers do not slow down on approaching or entering. If it looks clear from 30m away, just sail in. Not sure what the highway code has to say about that.0
