You don't get "paid" for Jury Duty, you get expenses.

I can honestly say I have never received a request for Jury Duty in all of the 20yrs I've been eligible for it. But I would be very surprised if there is no disabled access to court buildings, after all personal injury cases and what not...0 -
I wanted to skip jury duty when I was younger, I sent off the form stating that I have utter contempt for the justice system and all those who serve it and suggested I may not be the most suitable to serve on a jury but I am willing to do so if they insist.
They replied promptly to tell me my services will not be required.
Send off the form explaining the circumstances and see what they say.
Thanks for doing your civic duty. Team player.0 -

But you should imo your taking your free time or time off work why shouldn't you get paid? What if your a CEO of a company and getting paid £200-300 per hour? Would the person rather be at work or spend free time with family than 5 sessions in court with a possibility of a backlash from a criminal if he is well known?worried_jim wrote: »Thanks for doing your civic duty. Do you really think the authorities care about your wellbeing its all automated and streamlined where robots are making decisions apart from a few cases.0 -
Well, if your on the voters roll it doesn't matter if your disabled or not you will receive the same amount of requests. They don't know the person who requires wheelchair/lift access, which a lot of buildings don't have. As i say all you are to them is a national insurance number on a computer with a record.
In the post below, you make it sound like disabled people are being harassed - letters coming in 'droves', no less - by the courts calling them for jury service.Yes, it does matter why are disabled people being harassed by the courts needing doctors exemptions every 6 months. There is more and more jury duty requests than ever from what i can remember 5 or 10 years ago you never got a letter about jury duty now they are coming in droves every 6 months requiring disabled people to go to the doctors to get a letter? It's a sham system that cares about itself than the people.
As I posted previously......I do find it hard to believe that disabled people are being called for jury duty as often as you claim they are.0 -
I get the abject feeling the OP has received a request to do Jury Duty and is just fishing for an excuse not to do it.0

I'm not sure I'd like to be on trial with the OP as a member of the jury.0 -

You don't have a job though, so you're not gonna get 'paid' for it.
Unless its you 24/7 care job you think you should be getting paid minimum wage for through direct payments or whatever rant you're on currently.
Its so easy, as shown in this thread, to have someone excused for jury duty for being disabled. Making up stories about a disabled person being constantly harassed into jury service is nonsensical, unless the person providing 24/7 care who feels they should be paid a full time wage for it with every other week off isnt doing their job properly and sending a simple letter explaining that their disability prevents them form such service...0 -
My husband received his normal salary when going jury duty.
He was due to visit client overseas about a contract but that had to be postponed until afterwards.
His employer accepted that was his duty to attend.
I have never been summoned for duty service and am now too old.0 -

Because there is no point in laws, rules and regulations if people can just ignore them with abandon knowing there will be no punishment. It's nothing , not nothink.0 -

I'm acting on the behalf of someone else so you got that wrong?
Why would I need an excuse and he was exempt last year? Its the same reason. It's been a disjointed and ranty sort of thread.

I've received some good feedback, however people can show their own egos if they want i welcome it.KatrinaWaves wrote: »You don't have a job though, so you're not gonna get 'paid' for it.

Its not about being employed or not, you could be self employed or own property overseas with an income the principle is why should you attend court to give your free or paid time away when there is no contract with terms and conditions in place with valid consent and signature agreed? Someone especially with near dementia could forget if they have a bad carer or no carer who forgot their jury duty appointment could be contempt of court?? With a possibility of going to jail or fine for someone else contempt or they simply forgot?
Well private carers get paid £100 per day for sitting having tea with disabled people and they call it we are safeguarding individuals from intruders.
Disabled people should have the option to be indefinitely exempt put 1 request through and thats them off the system? The courts must be thinking that in 5 years time the disabled person won't be disabled? So would be eligible for jury duty?
In the end it should be a choice rather than enforcement the age we live in.0
