medical reasons. Can you contest this in court? What if the person in question didn't get the letter or misplaced and forgot about it? its not like they send follow up letter leading to the date?

So just return the letters to The Courts, with a copy of the medical exemption information.

Why ignore and then get worried about it ?

Get a supply of large envelopes, some postage stamps, copies of any documents required. When you receive any letters such as for jury duty, you can then respond. It is not difficult.

If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.

Which legal jurisdiction are we talking about? There are 4 in the UK.
Unlike some here, I am not omniscient. If I am wrong correct me. I won't take offence.

The law is like an ocean - have a swim but don't drown.

Open up letters received. Find Courts address for correspondence. That will be the Court that has jurisdiction over this matter.

It is certainly a very bad idea simply to ignore anything from the courts.

Keep getting letters for someone else who is exempt from jury duty do they fine you if you don't reply to the letters they send you?

Just return them if they are for someone else, job done.
    It's nothing , not nothink.

This appears to be a thread that's thrown up more questions than answers - mainly because of the initial lack of information and further lack of clarification in the OP's later posts.

I gather (but may be wrong):
the OP is asking on behalf of someone else
the OP is getting letters regarding jury duty for someone else - we don't know if this 'someone' lives at the same address as the OP or not
that 'someone' is allegedly exempt from jury duty because of medical reasons
that 'someone' did not respond to the letter
    that 'someone' is on benefits
that 'someone' is trying to or planning to say they didn't get the letter or forgot about it
that 'someone' is concerned about the impact of any fine imposed on the benefits they receive

I'm asking from a practical viewpoint as they say they will do xyz but they don't do anything as I have experienced with other authorities we live in a world full of threats and its upto people to give in to them or not.
  • My severely disabled son was called for high court jury service. We had to ask the doctor for a signed letter stating his inability to understand court proceedings. He was then formally excused.

But you're not going to get practical advice with the meagre and disjointed information you're giving out.

That's one of the examples shown on Gov.uk.

    Does it matter?
Don't you or 'someone' need to deal with the alleged failure to attend for jury duty that the letters refer to first?
And do it before the lack of response to the courts gets any more serious.

You might talk about threats and giving in or not but personally I'd not mess with that particular 'authority'.
