What model phone is it ?
This is the one - came with Samsung files so should work in much the same way as a very basic Samsung presumably - been using it since Oct 2017 with no problems, until now!

Just keep checking mobile Data being is switched Off or get a cheap monthly Sim only with a little bit of data.
PAYGO is far too expensive
No much point of having a smart phone and not be able to use mobile data0 -

PAYG is not too expensive for me. I send the occasional text - phone is kept in my car for emergencies only. I top up about twice a year. A cheap monthly sim only would cost me more than £20 a year.0 -

Agreed, PAYG is fine. Most places, including my house, have free wi-fi, almost everything can be done with that. I turn on mobile data once in a blue moon, mostly for maps. I don't top up as often as you!Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.0 -

Get a simple non smart phone then as recommended in post#110 -

As I said, my phone is in my car for emergencies. A non-smart phone would be no good if I couldn't switch on data if I had to.
I don't see why I should have to justify my choice of phone that has been doing what I want for 18 months, but now is doing something odd - I asked for assistance in sorting that out, not asking which phone I should have.
Thanks for helpful advice.0 -
Android is very good at behaving itself when it comes to data usage and if you tell it not to use mobile data it will not use mobile data.
It can only be presumed then that at some point when the phone was last in use you've turned the mobile data on, possibly by accident, and if you're not part of a bundle deal or contract or anything like that, even a quick burst can easily cost £1.
You'll have no way of proving it now but its something to be aware of for next time.0 -
LadyDee, why have you chosen this board to ask your question?
Surely the most suitable board would be the Mobile Phones Board?0
