Why is my phone using data?

Android phone, PAYG with O2. Wifi off, bluetooth off. I just turned on the phone because I knew I should have received a text from somebody and wanted to check.

The moment I turned on the phone I've used £1 of data.

Is there another setting that I've missed?

The one option that costs! Mobile data is when you do not want to pay. BT and Wifi do not cost. (beyond access points where you have to buy access but having them on costs nothign and saves mobile data if there is something to connect to).

'Mobile data' should be off if you don't want it to use any network data.

If this is on the "SIM cards" then it's saying Preferred Sim for Mobile Data O2, but there's no button there to turn it off or on. Whether I've got the SIM card on or off.
  • Hi,

swipe down from the top, you may find mobile data icon there, if not then hit the four wee squares for more icons.

If you keep your phone turned off (??), then when you switch it on the apps will all check for updates etc and use the data, unless you turn of the mobile data.
If you had WiFi turned on it would use the WiFi for data when connected. i.e at home.
Might be worth considering ditching it and buying a 'Dumb' phone that doesn't use any data.

I've found the mobile data icon, but it's off. Yet I've used £1 a day for three days. All I've done in 3 days was sent one text (15p). So I have a balance of £6.85 left out of £10 I topped up on Tuesday. Crazy.
