  • It's definitely important to be positive DIA and there are ALWAYS more positives than negatives if you list them :). It's just that people tend to focus on the negatives which magnifies them out of all proportion.

I hope you get everything done that you want to and have a lovely Christmas eve. :xmassign::xmassmile:rudolf:
Thanks HH I agree there are positives to be found everywhere :)

    Thanks jwil :)
Hi there DIA. Hope you had a good day yesterday. The weather was lovely, for a change. Not so good today, but we are still going to walk to the pub in our waterproofs ,if need be.
Gratitude is a great attitude to have. It cancels out the negativity. However we can't be positive all the time and life does suck sometimes. As long as you are not negative all the time, like you said,it doesn't hurt to have a rant from time to time.
Sorry to hear about the job. Mine is going well, but they lost the contract so will probably end in March when my contract ends. Just getting into the swing of it. Oh well,Charities and funding!!! Am sure something will come along.
Glad you 'binned' the facia man. My husband is a carpenter and always completes estimates for jobs, unless its a day rate.

    Have a good day.
    Onwards and upwards.

Thanks Mrs Boo Boo, I hope you walked to the pub as planned. Sorry to hear about your job. I chose not to take the job up for various reasons, but I know you enjoyed yours. As you say, something else will come along. Don't worry I will still have the odd rant ;)

  • Thanks everyone for all the lovely Christmas messages :A
I hope you all had a lovely Christmas day.
Only a day and already I'm restless and keen to get back to business ;)

HHOD has written about getting everything done in November so she can enjoy the lead-up to Christmas in a less stressful way. Me too! I have just restarted my Christmas savings fund and I will factor in MSE beauty treatments at the training college in November so I am ready for the social activities. I also want an appropriate party outfit ready at the end of November too :)

I will pop in the shops again for cards and wrapping paper for next year in the next few days.

I went shopping for YS food today. My freezer is now full of good quality food discounted by between 50-90% so I am ready for the new year. :money: I got 4 packs of Christmas coffee for £1.50 a pack. I am forever running out but that should keep me going until February. The plan is to keep to a £15 a week spend on groceries for January as I should only need fresh fruit and veggies and anything I run out of.

I resisted buying wine and I won’t be buying any in January either on my £15 a week. Good for my health and pocket too.

I will be meal planning and taking packed lunches and a flask out whenever I leave the house for the day

I am joining Beanie on the NSD challenge (assuming she does one) If I get a travel card, pack a lunch and a flask I should be able to be have NSDs every time I go out to work. I am aiming for 12 NSDs in January.

Off to menu plan, write a to do list and wrap yet more pressies for relatives I am visiting at the weekend.

Hoping you are all having a lovely day :)

I have worked out how my external drive works. It is up and running now. This was a frog outstanding for years and my computer is getting older so not backing up was a risk. I finally bought it a few months back then disconnected as I couldn’t fathom it. Some frogs need eating in parts for me but I got there in the end.

The squirrels are driving me mad. I am hoping 2020 will be the year the fascias get done and the squirrels are unable to get in. I can't summon up 'get a quote energy' but will add it to the list to do on Friday. I also have to admit that the current guy has yet to catch a squirrel! I like him but that isn't the point, so I will search for another company. I am going to start dedicating a morning a week to getting quotes as the house needs to keep improving...

I am prioritising a fire alarm and an extinguisher as I had a weird dream, maybe my subconscious telling me something?

A lovely family visit yesterday and a quiet day today.

Back soon with an annual review and some goals for 2020

I hope everyone is okay :)

  • Do you have gas fuel at all? If so, you may need to think about a leak detector too if you don’t already have one.

I love your 2019 summary DIA - I think it's really important to review the year in order to make the path into the new year have some clarity.

You've made some fantastic strides this year, you should be really proud of yourself :)

Wishing you all the best as we move into 2020!

Thank you. I'm thinking of a new diary. In 2020 I need to be a lot less wooly and have much clearer goals that can be measured. Off to work out how to do this ;)

  • Glad you had a good Christmas DIA , and I like your summary of all that's happened so far .
Regarding the squirrel problem , it seems that you need a fearless builder of sorts who can assess the loft , and if nothing is there then fill the hole where they are gaining access more or less straight away..
my brother did mine , when I had that problem for a couple of days.
Unfortunately , the standard procedure by most companies is they go to loft and put traps etc and hope that the problem is solved the usual way . It would be helpful to yourself to see what explanations the guy has been giving you every time he investigates . The very least he should be doing is putting ammonia and mothballs up there .
Have you banged the ceiling on various occasions ? Then again, it probably happens when your bleary eyed and probably sleeping :o

As for the hard drive . Now that you have taken the first step , I would advise you leave it plugged into your computer at all times .
It's best to backup every month or so . Not 100% sure about p c , but with macs they backup automatically . I imagine that you just press the arrow over the hard drive icon on your desktop, have a look at top of the screen and press 'back up now' . Somebody here who uses pc will probably put you in the right direction anyhow .

Anyway , fantastic progress has and is being made. It looks like you have a very good year to look forward to .
    Happy new year !
    ( have I said that too early ?) :o
