Totally agree with you both on this, and have a similar focus. Can't do anything about getting a cleaner until the mess has gone.
Thanks Redo :) Once all this is finally sorted and all the jobs done I will get a cleaner for a seasonal deep clean. It motivates me ;)

Thanks for the podcast recommendation - just subscribed to see if it'll shame me into clearing some of the accumulated junk in our place!

Hope your plans for the house continue to come together. You've made great progress so far - long may it continue!
Thanks Homegrown0 :) I seem to have taken my foot off the gas on house jobs and entered a decluttering/ organising phase. Just read about your bathroom and feeling bad as i was almost there with mine. That is my next target ;)

    My neighbour called yesterday.

(Some of you might know they are building an extension. They did not issue a party wall agreement to save money on the independent surveyor I was entitled to employ at their cost. I felt screwed over and very disappointed. Their workmen also broke my garden wall but I did not address it with them as I was too worn down with it all)

The wife called but I said I was busy and I'll come to them. I left it a day and called today.
They apologised. They claimed not to have been aware. I don't believe that for a minute...
I told them about my broken garden wall.
    They will be fixing it.
I accepted their apology to clear the air but I made it cleared I am still p
    ed off.
The work has stopped as they are having issues with their builder and the architect has gone AWOL.

What's done is done. Onwards and upwards. Eyes on the prize and all that ;)

At least getting the garden wall fixed is a start. Stay positive. Look forward to reading your baby step targets...

  • I suppose in one way , there should be less tension with the neighbours . Hopefully they'll tidy up the mess they created and it will look better for you . Good to see that you are not letting it get to you

Hope you are coping with the excessive heat and can relax DIA
You're still doing well in the right frame of mind too:)

Thanks AC :) I am melting! I seriously thought about a Dys0n fan but decided I simply cannot afford it so I am toughing it out. Hoping for the fan next year. Feeling positive and relaxed but need to start getting work done on the house again. I can't find an electrician for the bathroom work but will make an effort in the next few days to try to find one ;)

I'm glad contact has been made by the neighbour and that they will fix the wall.

Dave Ramsey says 15% ought to be saved for retirement so I’m thinking I should start doing that in the most tax efficient way possible. As a self employed person (very soon) that feels like a huge chunk! Maybe 10% in a SIPP or ISA might be the way forward?

I’m eating meat-free today. I made a veggie curry despite the heat :)

Somehow I am surrounded by mess again. It seems to happen so quickly! So off to start the ironing and get the washing up done at least. I will also collect all the bags of decluttering together and put them in the boot. Off to begin…

Hope you are all having a good day :)

If I were you I would arrange to see an independent financial adviser regarding your pension provision. It depends how quickly you are going to want to access savings / investments to what the recommend you do with your money ie how low risk, medium or high risk you want / are prepared to be. High risk for potential high gain can seem attractive if you haven't got long to go - but if you were to lose it - it would have a bigger impact as you can't wait for the market to recover the same...

Our pensions are all through work. I haven't started the investing lark yet - clearing debt first.
