If your wife earns less than the £600 a day that you earn then it would be better for her to wait in rather than you and take a day off unpaid if she didn't want to use holiday.
Even if your hired someone to wait in your house for £10 an hour it would cost less than £100 for them to be there the whole day so your still £500 up.0 -
Hi takmon. My missus earns about the same. I'm not hiring a stranger to be in my house to wait for John Lewis!! Sorry but that's out of the question...I've lready spent 8 hours hanging around.0

Do you have a cleaner that comes and cleans your house?. You could hire them for the whole day instead of just the few hours you usually pay them for.
Or maybe a relative or friend who wouldn't mind taking a day off work and being paid by you instead to wait in your house.0 -

i wish we had cleaners !
....find someone who wants to take a days holiday to wait in for JL for me - no...i cant think of anyone that would like to do that. . maybe you would like to do that for me takmon? take a days holiday?
ok - look, to put this bit to bed, im not trying to get paid massive amounts of consequential damages. i actually hadn't considered that that might enter into the equation, but thanks for pointing it out. the only reason i brought it up was to illustrate that it is massively inconvenient and there is a non zero cost to this for me.
all i really want is this solved without having to wait in further and to get a reasonable amount of money back.
whats my best approach?
there seems to be 3:
1) let them repair it then sell it (who is to say the same fault wont happen in 1.5yrs time?
2) take a settlement although i cant get them to even discuss this yet
3) go to the cc company and try the manufacturing fault route - if it is shown to be a manufacturing fault, am i entitled to a full refund or still a partial?0 -

1. Might be a good option but do be honest when you describe it because otherwise you might be in a similar situation down the line but with you as the vendor!
2. You'll need to assert your right to this because it looks like they don't want to go down this route.
3. Fine, but as neilmcl pointed out, the partial refund situation is still applicable. You're not entitled to a full refund but that doesn't stop the CC company (or JL if you pursue option 2) providing one if they saw fit.0 -
thanks for all the input.
so 2 and 3 really lead to the same thing - partial refund - has anyone got an idea of what a partial refund is going to look like, roughly? 50%? 75%? 90%? how can i get a guideline for what is fair?0 -
Rough rule of thumb for consumer electronics (off the top of my head):
Purchase £1000
After 1 year £750
After 2 years £500
After 3 years £300
After 4 years £200
After 5 years £100
After 6 years £00 -
ok, thanks for that.0

I also have an LG OLED.
Watched the above vid and it quite clearly states that LG will rectify any problems irrespective of the warranty status of the TV.... just contact them.
What am I missing?0
