TV faulty after less than 6 months.

Additionally your consumer rights become muddled. If you have to have a repair, provided by the retailer and within 6 months the product becomes faulty again, you can reject the goods.

If you cut out the retailer and instead go directly through the manufacturer then I can't see how this could be enforced as the retailer has never provided any kind of remedy to start with.
I think you make a valid point here, but as far as I understand it a warranty or guarantee is something that is offered in addition to your statutory rights so if you did choose to go via the manufacturer I think you could still reject the goods if they became faulty again. I don't think that the retailer specifically has to offer the initial remedy in order for you to reject them (as far as I know), but to do so you'd have to enforce your statutory rights with the retailer as that's who your contract is with.0 -
Also it's pretty much swings and roundabouts regarding the convenience argument. If I had an issue with my 50" plasma it would be a helluva lot more convenient to have it picked up by a service agent rather than trying to trudge it down to a high street retailer.
If it's 'swings and roundabouts', what's your point in insisting that going to the manufacturer is better/quicker?
.....and, you still have a PLASMA TV????:rotfl:0 -

Presumably because arranging a repair directly with the manufacturer would entail calling them, arranging a date and then being available for the engineer visit whilst insisting that the seller deals with the repair will involve the hassle of wrapping up the tv in suitable boxes and protective material and transporting it to the shop - likely very problematic if it's a large tv and you only have a small car. The upside of dealing directly with the manufacturer is that it is likely to result in a more timely repair - as reiterated by several people. Swings and roundabouts.
As for the dig about someone owning a plasma tv - why would you expect them to go out and spend hundreds on a new one when theirs works perfectly fine, just because new technology is available? I've got a six year old 42 inch Samsung and I'll be keeping it till it dies - despite the fact that I could afford to buy the latest all singing, all dancing ultra-whatever at a cost of several thousand pounds. Perhaps because I'm more prudent with my money I could also go out and buy a £350 dishwasher without bleating about it.0 -

We only got the Samsung because the sprog pushed the CRT off the cabinet when she was two. Even then we carried on watching it for a further six months until it totally died, despite the picture having a sickly green tinge to it0 -

His dishwasher was £300 and was apparently a top-of-the-range,all-singing, all-dancing model. For £350, yours must have been made of gold.0 -

No clue. My husband thinks that dishwashers are the devil's work so ours has been used a dozen times in 15 years at most, and not at all in the last 10. He does all the washing up and I use the dishwasher for hiding stuff from the sprog - it currently has Easter eggs in it :rotfl:0 -

Ours gets used daily and I've contemplated having a second! Having them side-by-side means you never have to put stuff away. Take clean stuff from one and when it's used, put it in the other. Then switch and repeat.0 -

Perhaps I should ask for a second husband/ dishwasher :T0 -
