  • I have much more success with non fiction unless of course you get lucky with a collectable. You have to be careful with the heavy books as it is a standard postage rate on Amazon so deffinately check the weight on the heavier ones that will have to go as packets. This is really important as it is amazing how steep postage can be. It is a deffinate advantage if an item can go as a large letter - although bear in mind if over 750gs it goes a packet anyway - I have wasted loads of time keeping carefully packing to keep within the large letter sizes to be reminded its to no avail at the PO counter.:o Getting things out quickly means you can save some by sending second class also, whereas i generally send first on Ebay

Thanks. I'd have thought now was a good time of year for those cookbooks/nice heavy hardbacks that people get for Christmas. The books I sell will be all non-fiction, how does that compare to fiction?

Unless it is rare a large cookery book will rarely be worth selling due to postage costs. Yes they are nice and expensive now, but with shops having 50% off books, and other huge discounts you need to be selling them for pennies to be sure of a sale.

Non fiction generally does very well on Amazon, but watch your pricing and watch the ranking as well.

Just to say that i sold a 2008 Guinness book of records at the weekend for around the £10 mark. After postage (£5!) I cleared almost £5. When I was offered the book I honestly thought it had no chance of selling, and it was only that the person who asked me to sell it insisted it was worth something that I agreed to take it..planning to give her a few pounds out of my own pocket..I was amazed as it went in around 30 minutes of being listed.

  • I love it when that happens  . It is a nice lttle mood booster when you sell something so soon after listing. I bought my dad a wood turning book Very cheap from a second hand shop, he said it wasn't quite the thing he needed, listed it and sold it within ten minutes for a tenner! If only it happened like that everytime  . Well done Soolin I wouldn't have suspected it of being worth anything either.
  • Does anyone sell dvds on Amazon? Just wondering if it worth selling them alongside the books I have listed
  • Hi Christina, I sell DVD's, CD's, VHS, PS2 & 3 games, puzzles etc all alongside books. Whether it is worth it or not depends on each individual item. So long as you weigh each item and are sure of the postage costs, you will be able to check prior to confirming each listing as to whether or not you will make a profit. If the cost of the postage and packaging is higher than the amount Amazon will give you on a successful sale then either cancel the listing or increase your price.

I have used Amazon to sell books for a few years now. However I listed a couple of books in the summer about the time me and my OH split up. I did not realise he had listed them on E-Bay aswell. At the same time I changed my Broadband provider and did not realise until a few weeks ago that the books had sold on Amazon aswell as E-Bay and the E-Bay buyers got them because OH had taken them. I wrote to Amazon to explain and to find out if I owed any money but no reply. I was prevented from listing again so opened a new sellers account but this was also blocked. What can I do?? I am an honest seller and this happened by mistake.

Have you tried calling amazon? Maybe talking on the phone will sort it out rather than emails.

Amazon are even more hard line about infringements than ebay and operating from a second account when banned on another is unlikely to give you much room to argue for your account back. You might have got the original account back on appeal, but I think it is very unlikely now, but a phone call won't cost you a lot so always worth a try.

I just sold my first book! Very exciting. It's a heavy one so I won't make as much as it looks at first, but I had only just listed it today so I'm quite pleased.

IN other developments, there's an annoying store that keeps revising its price every time I revise mine to be the lowest. Read about that at the beginning of the thread; I suppose there's nothing you can do if someone is determined to be the lowest on the list.
