OP, fuming at other drivers is absolutely fine IMO, happens to the best of us, apart from the perfect drivers on this forum of course.

You just need to be able to get over it fairly quickly so you don't end up doing something daft yourself. Always assume the person in the other car is an idiot, and more often than not you'll be right. I drive for work and used to get right wound up sometimes, but quite a few years back I realised it wasn't worth it, so now I just take it with a pinch of salt and get on with my life.

Failing to make progress in the road is another fail.
    No, it isn't.

And driving at 50 on a windy narrow road is not "failing to make progress". It might even be judges to be excessive speed.

Yeah, I bet you all smile sweetly when someone cuts you up meaning you have to slam on the anchors to avoid crashing into them, then drives 10 mph below the speed limit on a windy single lane road for miles.

    Sure.
Even worse when these myopic morons do this to you on an empty road! !!!!!!.....
Twice recently on a long straight stretch with no one behind me......total f..kwits.
    Both were wearing hats.
Funnily, i've been pondering a small Caddy sized van to facilitate a side project i'm going to work on. I havent seen much movement yet, but in theory markets like pickups and vans are likely to be hit by the upcoming downturn.
Would be interesting to hear if anyone has direct experience?

Why? So you can argue with them?

"then drives 10 mph below the speed limit on a windy single lane road for miles."
Which could well have a 60mph limit but it would be totally irresponsible and dangerous to drive at or near that speed.

A short stretch of road near us is unexplicably signed as the national speed limit, but locals know that is far too fast to be safe (windy road, sharp bends, dips, high hedges, horses, tractors, etc etc). Visitors try to drive to the limit and get annoyed when they are held up by slower moving cars. And, yes, accidents have happened.

pulled out in front of me causing me to have to brake hard, then drove very slowly in front of me for miles where I couldn't get past.

It made me really mad. I was fuming.

How do you cope with these situations?
The same way as you do with a youngerly.
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.

Nah someone cutting me up will usually cause some colourful invective in my car, followed by the realization that they are so oblivious it doesn't matter if I'm upset or not.
Conversely, I tend to assume that because they are so oblivious it's probably best not to follow too closely behind so I'll slow down to allow a bigger idiot-gap to form, which also means if a gap appears I can get away from them quicker.

If you think how bad the average driver is - half of them must be worse.

Often by using expletives, sometimes quite loudly. It can alarm my passengers who think I'm stressed by an incident, but it makes me feel better and probably prevents me getting stressed.

There are some really bad drivers on the road. Be aware of that and expect them, and you can drive defensively and safely.

Also be aware that there may be a good but not obvious reason why someone is driving unexpectedly slowly. Driving on an emergency spare would be one example.

And as others have said, leaving enough time for your journey, and building in contingencies, should help to prevent stress.

Yes the hat theory of bad driving, I'm a firm believer in it myself! Baseball Caps and Trilbies are the worst, in fact I wonder if the baseball cap wearers will progress to Trilby owners in their later years.
