Second Anniversary Savvy Shopper! PPI Party Pooper Energy Saving Champion
Morning all, hello from the sandpit. Summer is officially delayed, temperatures hovering in the mid-20s with rain showers. Obviously, nobody explained to the weather gods that the primary function of deserts is to be dry!

It's payslip day! My employer issues the payslips the day before the cash actually arrives. Unfortunately, my bank spoils all the fun by showing the inbound transfer 24 hours ahead of time. It's like getting unwrapped presents for Christmas.

The employer's mucking about with pension providers again. This means yet another pot, or another transfer with corresponding losses. Anyway, upped contributions from 8% to 10% from this month (company matched), so if I survive to retirement then I won't have to live on instant noodles and rainwater. Hopefully.

Otherwise, the plan's ticking along well. Nice not to have a credit card bill this month :)
I thought I was strange for feeling that way when the bank told me the amount before i got my payslip :rotfl:

Morning frugal pals. Feels like a long week here, but on the home straight anyway. I've just spent a very satisfying half an hour with my label maker, some class jars and my herb and spices cupboard. I cook everything we eat from scratch so this is quite varied. I've now decanted several old plastic tubs the various things came in (and have been refilled several times) to glass jars. I still have some to go and our favourite coffee jars fit the purpose beautifully so will be swapping over some more throughout the year. Other smaller items will go in other jars. Looks lovely :T

    I will also:
Put casserole on for tea in sc - done
Used last 4 mini sweet pot in ^^ - done
    Check banking - done
Load of washing on - done
Hot drink for commute - ready
    Vacuum through
    Flylady bathroom
    Pay a bill
Payday tomorrow, so do final shuffle of spare funds tonight to savings
    Walk later for free exercise

Have a good day all. Purps.

PipBoy and Sanctioned - you think you've got problems?? We run our own business, so I do my own payslips and transfer my own salary to the bank!!!

Today is my volunteering day. The risotto last night didn't use all of the chicken stock, so I'm using the rest this morning to make a flask of soup to take with me. Tea, coffee and bikkies are provided. Could be a busy day, as the forecast is lovely (I volunteer with a well-know heritage charity), but we're also a bit short-staffed.

Hoping I'll have enough energy left to get into the garage this evening - it's so close to being finished!! Once the walls are painted I'll re-stack all the shelving, then my way should be clear for painting the floor. I think I'm going to have to buy more floor paint - I thought I had some, but in all the sorting out and moving around of stuff I haven't come across it. Shame - but if that's all it's cost me to get a garage that I can actually use, it's not too bad.

The SpareRoom advert needs to be renewed, as it's been up a month. A couple of enquiries, but nothing that went anywhere (one who decided it was too expensive, and another who asked if it was still available but never got back to me when I said yes). I think I'll drop the price - it's the whole of my attic (bedroom, sitting room, shower room), and I have it on at £625 to make full use of the £7500 rent-a-room scheme. But I think I might have more success if I drop it below £600. Somehow £595 feels a lot cheaper than £625, although it's only £30. I'd rather have someone at £595 than no-one at £625!!

    Right, best crack on.
No longer a spouse, or trailing, but MSE won't allow me to change my username...

Dealing with that, VAT and the upcoming IR35 for private contractors rules has been why I've stayed staff, rather than going contract. It's easier to let somebody else do that part, even if it does reduce my income somewhat...

    Hello Daffodils,
A bit of nice sunshine here. Might even get a little walky down the garden once I've finally finished all today's Big Budget Day tasks.
HK - Oh, I totally get the unhelpful cat thing.....one of our past cats once managed to drown my phone in a cup of piping hot coffee! The insurance people loved that one, but thankfully they paid out!
    And today's frugal list:
*Reconciled March's budget - only one outstanding transaction to factor in.
*Set April's budget. It looks doable & I've recommenced monthly payments to those of our Savings Piggies which haven't had a top-up in a while.
*Input new monthly bill amounts onto my Excel spreadsheet. All have gone up except mmr f's professional association fees & our car service plan.....though this has only reduced through circumstance because our car was recalled for so long, it didn't require any servicing & so the monthly payments added up. Still, every little helps.
*Wrote up a new grocery budget tracker sheet for April (it lives in my diary).
    *Paid CC bill in full.
*Read energy meters & uploaded onto our account.
*Was one of the lucky 200 people to receive a full-sized brand new Body Shop product to test before it goes on sale......just in return for an online review, that's all, so a nice surprise.
*Do meal plans for next week (next on the list, but need ore coffee first)
    *Make tomorrow's packed lunch.
*Make fajhitas for tonight - will use some of the re-fried beans I batch-cooked in the slow cooker last week, some surplus peppers I sliced & froze & a round-up of salad in the fridge,home-grown frozen chillies, l/o tortilla wraps & last bit of cheese, etc. Will be cheap, filling & tasty.
    *Water baby veggie seedlings.
*Check greenhouse seedlings too, to see if any are thirsty.
*Continue knitting Stash Busting Challenge Project #7 - a little cardi. Am halfway up the back already & would be further if I hadn't tried to knit while watching Danish subtitles, which resulted in 5 rows having to be frogged. Bah!
*Carry on reading my book (lent to me)
*Remembered to budget for treating nephews to some Easter choc - one wrote to me this week & very helpfully reminded me that it was 'nearly Easter egg time'.
I think that's it.....Oh actually, just a little bargainaceous thing to flag up.......for anyone who likes avocados but finds they can be a bit pricey.....I've been buying the M*rrison's Wonky Avocados recently. They come in a net bag priced at £2.40 & I was amazed to find that the bag we bought at the weekend contained an amazing ELEVEN avocados!! They mostly need ripening at home. I usually only have half a one a day, sliced onto my lunch, so this will keep me going for ages.
Right, must update my DFW diary now,
    Cheers all,
    F x

    Evening all :)
Nice day after the freezing fog first thing had cleared :)
Went to next town to the market this morning, bought veg for the week, £4 spent.
Started shopping list, may go tomorrow
Watered seedlings and other things that needed it, as it is quite dry, with no rain forecast for the foreseeable future, according to the BBC weather app on my phone, anyway
Heating on for a couple of hours first thing, but turned off as soon as it started to warm up. Stove alight now
    RM surveys stuff done
A couple of online surveys also done

    All food was from home
My brother turned up this afternoon, having walked from his workplace about 5 miles away. I don't know why he didn't either phone us for a lift, or get a bus. His car has blown up apparently, and bearing in mind he has never had it serviced in the 3 years he has owned it, he is probably right. I will need to lend him the money to buy another cheap car so that he can get to work. OH took him to a local dealer and he put a deposit down on one which should hopefully be MOT'd etc by sometime next week. Hopefully it won't be a dud  In the meantime, he will have to stay here so that either OH or I can get him to and from work. He starts very early :( Sigh!
