I see there's some conclusion let me try and explain.

    1. Threads started after june - we have them all
    2. Threads started before june - we can recreate them
    3. Posts made after june on threads started before june - we have probably lost them

    Thus

If a post was popular and started in February.... then we should be able to restore all the thread and all the posts on it up to June... but all posts made on that thread after June we've probably lost.

    Hope this clarifies it :)

But on threads such as the one below which started before the 29th June and continued after we have lost the posts up until 29th June, but the ones after are still there.

Which is exactly the opposite to your statement the above.

Similarly to what fermi says, if you look at this post by lisssa on the thread Sticky: Chip 'n' Pin - A Quick Guide Discussion Area and what follows it, you’ll see there’s a hole between approximately 19-10-2004 and 28-06-2007. Two posts after lisssa’s, there’s one by me. I know the hole wasn’t there, when I posted.

I can’t do dates, but I can to graphs. :) The following graph is how things appear to me to, at the present time.

Martin, you seem to be saying that you want posts only after 1 June 2007. I can’t see that you can mean “after 30 June 2007”, because we already have those posts. Are you saying that backups can be used to bring the forum to the situation in the next graph?
    missing_posts_after_restoration.png

This means you are only looking for posts for one month – June 2007?

  • It does clarify it for me Martin as thats how I worked it out, sorry Alfie but you do make a pretty picture!

The one below is not so pretty and clearly shows that it is the posts from before the end of June that are missing in this case (and many others).

don't know if this site can help:

Thanks for posting this BBB. I was trying to get my old pc to work, as I knew I had this site bookmarked on it and thought it might help too. Then I realised it's part of the waybackmachine site :o .

Thanks anyway and good luck to all that are trying their hardest to restore lost posts.

I would doublecheck #3, as you DO seem to have the posts you think maybe lost.
Those posts are on MSE right now.

Threads started before end June (29-6-07) with posts after end June, have been chopped & currently only show posts after end June

The following threads were all started before June & have been chopped at 29-6-07:

Plenty more where they came from as well. In exactly the same state:

To name but one, and I think many of the other long running threads on DFW.
