Hi DawnW about your comforters, find a laundrette with large machines and do a hot wash before you put your duve's in! And remember a tennis ball for the dryer! Just thinking. Doing it in the bath tub is not worth it!

Sadly there is no such launderette around where I live, I spent ages looking the other day. It is a small town surrounded by other small towns, none of which have much in the way of facilities, and I would have to drive more than 20 miles to the nearest city to find one. We have a local launderette with small machines but it is so dirty and unkempt that anything you took in there would probably come out dirtier than it went in  What I mght do is compromise by sending the bigger one to the laundry and doing the other one in the bath. That way I could compromise by only paying for one, but the other one will have to wait till we get a really good drying day!

Morning frugal pals :hello: it's Friday :j:j

Got a bit of time before school run and work so a few things I have done/to do:

    Load DW and put on
    Load wm on quick wash
    Check banking
    Quick tidy round
Order some coffee from cheapest place online as can't seem to get it in any of our sm now
    Change one bed
The sim I tried to buy yesterday didn't go through, will try again today - if not go with another provider
Check birthdays in April and see if I need to get anything.
Leftovers for lunch all round :D
We're going out for dinner for family members birthday. It's at a fixed priced place so not as bad as it might be for cost.

Have a good day everyone. Purps.
  • Hi everyone :D I can't keep up with the thread anymore :( too busy in RL and trying to spend less time online. Hope you don't mind me being a p/t poster for the time being....

Purps enjoy your evening out - yolo eh?

Foxgloves sorry to hear of your arthritis diagnosis. That is sad and yes you clearly are too young! hope it doesn't cause you too much pain after your tendon heals x

I'm off today (and tomorrow :j) but need to be around as have a muscle food order being delivered. Last delivery at end of Nov has just finished so seemed a good deal. Can I live with the ridiculous amount of plastic though?!

    Other small things:

    * ordered some soapnuts
    * all meals from stores
    * will have a breakfast hash to use up wedges & chicken burger knocking around the freezer
    * need to ask oh to pick up some yeast and bread flour. Might wait until tomorrow though when he's going in to town anyway....
    * at home so will do some sewing - finish jumpsuit, top alteration and have a paid job to do
    * take pup for a nice walk
    * carpenter coming to finish a job today :T
    * sweep up & tidy garden
    * sew seeds
    * have a bath and get ready for evening out with bff and friends for her birthday. Think I will take items for breakfast for everyone tomorrow

Ok that's me. Better go get ready!

    Morning all,
Thanks DNMS - I don't have it anywhere else, so will just have to suck it up, adapt how I do things a little & stuff myself with fish oils, etc. Both Mum & Nan had it in their hands too, so perhaps I shouldn't be too surprised x
A great start to the day - mr f got up really early for staffing an event on the other side of the county & cat decided to jump on my head & walk all over the pillows meowing, so I took this as an opportunity to get an early start. Frugal stuff on the list today:
*Cleaned all of downstairs using minimal products & washable microfibre cloths.
*All household linens including bed linen changed & loaded into washer ready for a cheaper overnight wash.
    *Did a couple of surveys.
*Transferred next week's meal plans into my diary.
    *Write shopping list.
*Defrosted some bread rolls for planned picnic tomorrow - low cost outing somewhere fairly local (haven't decided yet), cheap or free to get in, with picnic & a nice scenic fitness walk, that's what we both fancy.
*Use-it-up jacket potato night tonight - I'm going to cook the last of the king prawns & have with sweetcorn in mayo & use up the last bit of lettuce. mr f is gearing up for a truly epic 'Epic Man Stew'. He has defrosted......hang on, I'm going to count them.....SIX boxes of assorted leftovers (to which I will be adding the end of a bag of frozen peas) & that will make his dinner tonight plus extra portions for the freezer.
*Deal with leftover tortilla wraps - I will use one for a quick quesadilla for my lunch today, as can use up a bit of l/o red onion, diced pepper, in it & we still have plenty of cheese. Also eat almost squidgy kiwi fruit. Tracking calories defo makes food last longer!
*Make a sugar-free jelly. A find at the back of the pantry,
*Plant out 2 irises I received as a gift.
*Knit the next of another 3 blanket squares (2019 Stash Knitting Project #6) while I continue to decide what to knit for Project #7. have a nice pattern for a little cardi, but I already have a big jumper in that yarn, so I'm not sure if I want another garment the same, although I do love my big jumper & wear it loads.
*Check baby tomato plants which were removed from propagator & potted up yesterday.
*Liaise with estate agent over target date for getting our old family home on the market. How is this money saving? Because I have found out that it can all be done remotely, which will save a lot of day trips & fuel.
    *Filing session esp financial admin/docs.
*Mend a much-loved garden ornament which I received as a gift. I think this will be a bit of a fiddle, but should only require some strong embroidery thread & a good dose of patience.
*Add a couple of strong brown A4 envelopes to my recycled wrappings stash.
I am on track to get all of that done today, as well as some leisure time.
    Enjoy your Fridays all,
    F x

  • Hi all, hope you dont mind a newbie joining in. This thread inspires me so much when i start to lose the motivation to carry on with the DFW trail. So thankyou all.
    Anyway, today I have:
Checked online banking and updated spreadsheets.
Made chicken stock from a carcase from our roast chicken dinner.
Made chicken and veg soup with said stock.
Moved spare pennies from bank acc to credit card ( I think I saw this referred to as a "tilly tidy" somewhere?)
Heating off all day (it's my weekend and everyone else is out so no one to complain its too cold :rotfl:)
Finally rang about a refund for an overpaid mobile contract, £62 coming back :j
On course for a NSD :j

All I can think of for today. Have a good day all :D

Didn't post yesterday, as I was at work all day. I say work - I volunteer one day a week, so it's not really 'work'! Last week I applied for a job that is basically identical to the volunteering I'm doing - haven't heard back yet, will be very disappointed if I don't at least get an interview. I'm worrying that I said something stupid in the CV or the covering statement - it's a LONG time since I last applied for a job!!
It was very mild here yesterday, and I was out all day, so I knocked the heating off completely - it's been on just mornings and evenings for a while. Didn't feel cold last night, so haven't bothered putting it back on again today. And today I rang the Water people to see if they can reduce the amount I'm paying each month as himself has moved out - they asked me to take a reading, and then take another one in 2 weeks, then they'll decide. I'm being very very frugal at the moment (if it's yellow...). Determined to get that monthly figure down even if it has to go back up again later!
Did my weekly shopping this morning - not having the car is helping the budget, as I can only buy what I can carry (uphill!!). Spent the grand total of £9.87 - a chicken, 2 pints of milk, some butter and some spread (for cold mornings when the butter's too hard to use), a cucumber, 4 bananas, a loaf of bread, 1/2 a dozen eggs, and a pack of dark choc digestive biscuits. Everything else will come out of stores or from surplus that I've frozen. According to my spreadsheet, over the month since he left, I've spent a total of £67.22 on food, which averages out at £13.44 per week, or 67p per meal. I know it's not sustainable, and eventually (when I've eaten all the pasta - why do I have SO MUCH pasta??) I'll have to start replacing. But by then hopefully I'll have found a job/a lodger.
Tonight I will be having a takeaway curry - I've decided that once every 4 weeks I'm going to have a takeaway. That's 13 times a year. The portions are always huge, so I'll eat half and freeze half (so in 4 weeks' time I'll eat the frozen half). That way I'm only paying for a takeaway 6 1/2 time a year - I think I can justify that!
No longer a spouse, or trailing, but MSE won't allow me to change my username...

    Afternoon all :)
Welcome to Pip Boy 111, we like having new people join us here :)

Went out for lunch today - OH wanted to go to an auction viewing, so we loaded a big flask of soup, some bread and butter, and the final two portions of a fruit loaf into our old camper van, drove to the auction venue, which is most of the time a livestock auction, and surrounded by a nice grassy field. We parked up, went to look at the auction lots, then made tea and coffee and sat in the van to have our lunch :)
Posted a birthday card using a free stamp from RM surveys :)
Stopped off at a garden centre on the way back to pick up some compost. Didn't buy anything else :A
Finally popped into the supermarket to do the remains of the shopping, all put away now :)

Still need to make that banana bread - I decided to make one with chocolate chips in, and I didn't have any yesterday, so postponed till today after the supermarket shop, as I had added them to my list :)
Spending diary needs updating with today's spends
I have an ebay parcel to pack
Water any seedlings that need it
Check for surveys, I am tryng to be more conscientious about this than I have been recently!
Sort out RM surveys stuff that needs posting over the next few days
Dinner will be the remains of a quiche I made the other day, with salad and a jacket potato :)
  • Evening everyone.
I've had washing on the line today and spent about £10 in local shops. Had to put the heating on this evening as it's a bit chilly.
Did one SB survey and joined I-say.
DDs buying their dad a present for a significant birthday and DD2 is buying it through her Quidco account - I've trained her well!
    Happy Friday everyone :)

Prices are rising, a lot in some cases, and that may well be why you / all of us are finding it a struggle sometimes to stay in budget. If you are buying the same things as usual, many of the prices will have risen recently, or pack sizes decreased :(
