Universal credit payment seems wrong

Hello everyone

Ok so we have been on universal credit for over a year and me and my wife was both working and we got £450 a month child tax credits once s month via universal credit

However since last December my wife had a terrible incident with her back. To cut a long story short she's unable to walk and is in a wheelchair and is currently on SSP and PIP and I'm her full time carer and I claim carers allowance and have had to stop work as we have a 1 year old also

Now the payment we received this month is only £744. Universal credit and I'm shocked. That will pay just our rent and council tax for the month.

Upon doing some reading they seem to have not included some elements of universal credit
They haven't added the carers element of £156 a month and they haven't added the limited capability of work related activity element either

Also is it just a standard allowance awarded to a disabled person?
This is the breakdown of our award

Standard allowance £498

Housing £369 (rent £595)

Children £508 (1yr old + 9yr old)

Total before adjustments £1376

Take home pay £512 (SSP)
Total they take off £197
Add my carers allowance I claim £279 which they take straight off also
Total adjustment £477

They deducted £147 for an advanced payment
Take home pay is £744

Now am I missing something? Should we appeal and would they correct the payment before it's due to be paid on the 21/03/19?

Has your wife been assessed for limited capability for work? The Limited capability for work related activity won't be added until a decision's been made and then it's not paid until the 4th month, starting from when she sent in her first fit/sick note.

The carers element should be added.

Can't help with anything else i'm afraid. Some will see this and help further.

No she's not been assessed by anybody from universal credit but PIP did all of there assessments and like I said she can't walk and she's on both the enhanced rates for PIP. I've informed universal credit about everything.
Kept them up to date about everything

Her sick notes get sent into her workplace

Her PIP award doesn't automatically qualify her to limited capability for work. To claim this through UC then she needs to send in the sick notes to UC as well. Then she'll eventually be assessed for LCW and have a face to face assessment. The LCWRA element of UC will not be paid to her because she hasn't been assessed.

If the decision is LCWRA then the extra money will be paid from the 4 month of the claim from when she sent in her first sick note, as previously advised.

Once she sends in the sick notes her work coach will refer her for a work capability assessment. Then she'll be sent the UC50 (work capability assessment form) this will need to be filled in and returned with all her evidence to support her claim. The process could take several months.

I can't believe that with all the advisors I've spoken to over the telephone with universal credit has ever mentioned that to me even after explaining our current circumstances nobody told me that I have to give sick notes in to anybody at the jobcentre. My wife is still employed so I assumed I just gave in her sick note to her employers. Do I just walk into a jobcentre with her sick note? Also that means I'd need two sicknotes printed? One for work and one for UC

When claiming UC you have a work coach. I'm very surprised she hasn't been asked for a sick note. Both links will explain everything you need to know, please read them.

    Thankyou for the links

I thought she would automatically qualify you see due to the circumstances

I reported it all via my universal credit journal months ago

Yes she'll need 2 sick notes, one for her employer and one for UC. You can take it to your local JC but make sure her NI number is on it. I'm not sure if there's any other way of sending it, i'm sure someone will advise further for this.

Only certainly circumstances automatically qualify for LCWRA. PIP doesn't automatically qualify you.

You may be referred for a WCA on the first day of your claim when one of the following applies:
    • you are terminally ill
    • you are pregnant and there is a serious risk of damage to your health, or to the health of your unborn child if you do not refrain from work or work-related activity
    • you are receiving or are about to receive treatment for cancer by way of chemotherapy or radiotherapy – or you are recovering from such treatment
    • you are in hospital or similar institution for 24 hours or longer
    • you are prevented from working by law
    • you are receiving or recovering from treatment for dialysis, plasmapheresis or total parenteral nutrition for gross impairment of enteric function
