I imagine that they started off with good intentions, and when they realised that the demand outstripped the vouchers they had they decided to send everyone something anyway. I agree that it does seem to have been badly handled, but I suppose they figured that people could give away the vouchers to friends and family if they didn't want it themselves, so at least some of the people who applied would be happy!

    Agree with Jedster.

You can't claim discimination based on the fact that they have no record of such personal situations. If you write back though, I would expect them to acknowledge this and in good faith try to give you a swap or give you something else to say sorry.

However, remember RM lose tons of letters especially during strikes so how do you know they have even had it? Was it sent signed delivery?

If not, they may not even have it to help you.

I would imagine that any further promotions would end up being removed due to those attempting to use disability against them.

Hope they finally help you though.

I never even got sent a new card from them :(
  • I'm not sure if this will help or not, but I also got a gym pass when I asked for a pamper session from Nectar. I am actually a member of the gym they sent me the voucher for as well. When I called them, they were apologetic but said they had nothing available in the pampers in my area as they were massively oversubscribed, but if I called back in a month, so long as I didn't use the original voucher, they would try and sort me out with a pamper session. I called back two weeks ago and they have now sorted me out with a reiki session reasonably close by. It may be worth another call. Hope you get it sorted.
  • Wow, I have been laid up for a few days so have not checked this thread. I had no idea that it would get such a reaction!
Thank you all for replying to this, interesting to see how many people have been disappointed in what they were allocated.
Perhaps we should start a swap shop!!
    Kind regards

TBH I didn't bother applying for this...Didn't think I'd get anything worthwhile out of it...and it seems I was right....

But it's interesting that you suggest that all disabled people should be given the pamper treats...thus meaning, presumably, that more "able" people will be given the active option - which for a lot of people wouldn't exactly be "relaxing" or, indeed, a treat...So surely that would be some kind of positive discrimination. Seems to me the fairest way they could have done it is to give the treats out first come first served...which seems to have been what they've done.

And, finally, this is a company actually *giving stuff away*. I guess the number of people who complain about not getting the thing they wanted just means that they won't bother giving anything to anyone again. Great.

I don’t know if this was directed at me specifically but I actually did not say that “all disabled people should be given the pamper treats” or that able bodied people must only have the active treats. I said that if the offer was made by nectar that they should respect the choice made by the individual, not substitute in an option that is not remotely like the choice made. They do offer you to have a second choice, after all, which implies that you will get at least one of the options.

You say they should “give the treats out first come first served...which seems to have been what they've done.” Ok fine, but then they should state this and then ought to remove the choices from the website when they are all used up. If the “treat” is not then available and has been removed then people wont be disappointed. They and other companies have run this kind of thing before. They must know how many nectar cards they have issued. They must know from previous experience of running these kinds of promotions what the take up is. So as I said very badly organised.

My other point was the rudeness in them not responding.

And that nectar should not assume that all people are able bodied, that if a person asks for a non active treat there may be a very good reason why they have asked that.

Of course nectar do not know whether people are disabled or not but equally why should I have to explain that I am disabled to the company? It should be enough for them to accept that I have asked for a non active treat - I should not have to explain why.

So it is “free”, is it really? They must get the funds from somewhere to pay for this promotion. I would guess it is through us buying the goods at companies that support nectar so we actually have paid for it in a roundabout way.

I'm not posting to cause a row...............But I must step in to defend nectar a bit.

They make an offer to give you something just for being a member, now they know how many members they have. But they also know not everyone wil take them up in it (like myself). But how are they supposed to work out how many members will want to do each?

The simple answer is they can't. And they can't say to a company we want to offer this treat, you may get 3 million people or you may get none - what price can you give me? It just doesn't work.

So someone will end up with a choice they did not want.

Nectar just try and give everyone something.

They don't know if you are ill or disabled or are not willing to travel a few hundered miles

What do you expect from such a large free offer

you are not going to get a personal service

So if you get something you can use............good for you

If you don't like your Free treat, just don't use it or offer it on this forum so someone else can make use of it

At the end of the day What Have You Lost ???

Now I shall sit and wait for the knifes to come flying in (even if it is just for my spelling)

In addition to my last posting

I am choosing not to take up this offer now that they have not really honoured it, as will many people. And no I have not "lost" anything but it is the principal of the matter and the lack of any communication from them in reponse to my emails. That is what annoyed me more than anything.

You say that it is not a personal service. No it is not. However, the way it was promoted was as if it was personal – A Treat For You, 2 choices so you got what you wanted. Perhaps they need to look at their promotional techniques. Not well done as it turns out. I expect a bit more from such a large company. My little company could do a more professional job.

I agree with Becles that it should be done randomly. They should then say it is being done randomly, don’t advertise it in such a personal way then this would avoid disappointment due to unclear, misleading and ambiguous advertising.

(I have no problem with your spelling!)

I still don't see what all the fuss is about?!? For goodness sake, it was FREE, and if you can't make use of the voucher, you can't make use of it!! Sainsbury weren't under any obligation to give anything to anyone, and given the amount of grief they've got, I doubt they'll ever bother again!

Alison, I'm sure your small company would have done a "better" job, but running a small company is ALOT different to running a nation wide huge company, so you can't compare the two unless you've managed both types at a high level.

As for disabled people being given a gym voucher, I was under the impression that gyms had saunas, jacuzzis, swimming pools etc... which is what I would have used mine for! If they asked "Are you disabled?" on their sainsbury card application form, I'm sure it would have made the BBC headlines!!

Now, does anyone want my manicure, because the appointments are on wednesdays and last one is at 4.30pm, which I can't make unless I take an afternoon off work!? Or maybe I'll exchange it for a gym voucher that one of those ungrateful people threw back in Sainsbury's face... :-o
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

It's almost as if they have a deal with the gyms to try and get people to sign up...
