I discovered them when I checked my balance on Friday evening, after I got home from dinner. Roughly around 8pm. I blocked my card right away then and got in touch.

I keep my phone in my bag when away places and on the table when at home. But you'd think it would be safe in your own home. The bank are focusing on this one transaction and ignoring the other £1200 I'm missing that didn't require verification at all.

I’m not surprised though, as it clearly links these transactions to a device owned and in the possession of you.

Not just that, but you willing to ‘write off’ this singular transaction of around £60 appears suspicious

The reason everyone is concentrating on that one transaction is because it was verified on your phone and therefore that is why the bank is refusing all of them....

it is important you find out if it was your phone number that was used and if it was how the fraudster got the text

In any case, you said you have no idea who would do this.

Now you have a very, very small group of suspects.

Another reason it looks fishy, is that on most gambling sites (I think) you can only get repaid using the original payment method / details.

So from their perspective there doesn’t appear to be any incentive for fraud, if anything it’s a no lose situation for you...

Especially when undertaken by a family member

Yes, it was my phone number the text was sent to. I had people visiting around the time it was sent through. It was not a transaction for £20, not £180. It is that that is complicating the whole thing. I just don't know what to do.

You only need to,get the code once then you can spend spend so all the transactions are linked. You need to tell the police who you were with and who knew your number. Are there any odd phone numbers called from your phone around the time? Someone could have used your phone to call their phone and then they would know your phone number.

Thing is, it isn’t complicating the issue. It’s incriminating.

And their bank details, number on back of card, home address, date of birth and presumably an email to verify gambling account.....

Oh, and password to said email.

No, I have to verify every new transaction, even on the same website. The other websites in question did not have secure code so a text to my phone wasn't needed for them. I get strange numbers calling me all the time. I just don't answer.
