    Hi All

I have been trying to back up my docs, photos and music as i need to put a new OS on it as the licence for my previous one has expired. As the 2 W7 are different veriions i cannot just validate with the new key.

I tried the W7 back up three times but each time it closed down, after 2 hours each times:wall:

Please can anyone help or advise a good back up just for what i need backed up, thanks in advance.

how much data are you looking at 10gb 100gb 1000gb etc?
    Drop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
    10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
    20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)

    Hi there,

Can I ask a few quick questions about backing up please...? My hard drive is split into two partitions: my D drive is for data and has all of my photos, films and music stored on it. My C drive has the usual Windows stuff (I'm running Windows 7) and my documents. My key documents are backed up through dropbox onto a netbook and a USB stick.

Anyway, I have just bought an external hard drive. I intend to use synctoy to backup my photos, films and music onto it on a daily basis. I shall probably do the same with 'my documents' so that I have another copy of them. I was just wondering what else is worth backing up on a daily/weekly/incremental basis. Also, should I do a big starting backup/some sort of system image first? If so, using which free software...? Thanks!

Thanks. So a full disk system image of my C drive will backup everything I need to get started again if this computer crashes...? Then incremental backups of my documents, photos, etc will make sure I have all of my important files safely to hand in the future...?

    Hi everyone.

Had backed up my Dell Dimension PC onto external hard drive in November but HD crashed big time on 1/1/11! OS was XP Media Edition and I had used Backup in Accessories, Sytem Tools. When I tried to recover files onto my laptop found there was no such facility in System Tools. After days of searching I finally managed to load this onto my laptop then found the files were unreadable. A friend sent me a link to a program which easily read all the files thank goodness!

Now have a new laptop with Win7 on but am loath to use their backup in case the support disappears like it did with XP.

Can anyone suggest a decent, fairly easy backup method that doesn't need any specific program to restore files. I intend to backup whole system on a monthly basis and docs/files on a weekly basis. Have Iomega 500gb external usb hard drive.

if you really just want to backup files only, copy and paste, but open files won't backup, and it won't allow you to recover the whole system in one go, windows, programs, data, settings

win7 system image should be ok, alternatives are macrium reflect free, or maxblast (if you have a seagate or maxtor drive internally in pc or iomega enclosure)

It would be a good idea to write important files to dvd occasionally too

  • When I try to back up it takes forever and after my third DVD, I realise I still have a heap to back up and I give up at that point. Maybe I should buy a separate external hard drive just for backups?

My b/f is quite into techie stuff and kept telling me to back my photos up as I'd be upset if I lost them (I actually would cry!).

So this weekend, I've borrowed one of his spare hard drives and backed up.

I need to buy one of my own very soon - any suggestions?

Also, any suggestions of good online photo storage - needs to be free and allow you to store a lot of photos. Have got some on sky drive - what if I were to open another hotmail account for these would I need to use the hotmail account to keep it active. Or how about using my normal gmail account to email the 'photos to myself?

    Any suggestions welcome - TIA
