I am trying to back up my friends photos onto disc for her. She has a Dell Latitude with Window XP. I have copied and am trying to paste to a cd in the dvd drive ( are cd and dvd drives the same) and it says "Windows cannot read from this disk. The disc may be corrupted or may be using a format not compatible with Windows. " Any ideas0

Can you open an Explorer window to show the (empty) contents of the CD in the drive?
Have you tried a different blank CD, or a different brand of blank CD?
Have you established that the DVD driive can definitely write to CD - i.e. it's not a read-only drive?
Does the drive actually work in read-only mode? If you put a commercial CD or DVD in it, will it play back?0 -
I've been using this for a while on my home PC: http://www.buddybackup.com and it seems to be doing a good job! I've got it backing up between my laptop and my portable hard disk drive I use for work. I had a nasty crash last year and I lost loads of files (most didn't matter but loosing photos sucks) so I am determined not to go through it again!!This will be mine 2009: Cash prize, Holiday, Make up/perfume
_party_ Wins: AVON lip gloss, Peroni Kagoule, Foraging day (!)

Wonder if anyone can help me? I'm a bit of a one syllable girl when it comes to computers! I am using windows xp, and a while ago put hubbies accounts on a cdrw. Now I want to update them, and it says the files are read only. When I go in to properties and untick the read only box, it says access denied. Don't know what to do now. Any help for a dummy??????Always look on the bright side of life ....la la la la la la la la0

Okay, you may know of the Win 7 backup tool.
I use it via an external hard drive, to create an Image and increments.
However I've been reading the techy press and it seems there are BIG concerns about how long Win 7 takes to backup a large disc, sometimes a couple of days.
Responses from the Boys from Richmond is that they are aware that there is a problem and are investigating it.
Meanwhile they cheap and effective program they are touting is
Acronis Backup and Security 2010, about £25
Me? - I used the 2009 edition and when my system crashed, it was hopeless the backup was corrupt - but this is new and 'improved'
Still using Win 7 at the moment. :beer:0 -

My case is my case but be aware of problems.
Should I have unplugged the H/D when PC not in use?
My next backup H/D will be accompanied by BBD technology.
"BBD"? BLOODY BIG DOG.:eek:Do you have a leesonce for yer minkey?0 -
I want to back up my computer, is IDrive (idrive.com) a good tool for this? I've not backed up before and considering my photos and music are stored on my computer I really need to rectify this
