Flat buying - seller turning nasty

She's trying to sell, and is £3000 in arrears with service charge payments???That, along with the fact that she thinks she can sell second hand IKEA furniture for more than it's new cost leads me to think only one thing....
looooooooolThe woman is totally and utterly mad.God knows what she's hiding under the floorboards....:eek:Run....Run as fast as you can away from the bunny boiler. :EasterBun
sssssssssssssso funny run run as fast as you can. YOU should be the gingerbread man and make a nice gingerbread house for xmas but run run as fast as you cans0 -
If I lived in London I'd even offer to buy you a beer  to talk you out of it.
Above all, if an estate agent from the area you're buying in is telling you not to, then listen. They don't give negative advice often, so when they do you should take note.
It hasn't been my intention to turn this thread into some epic tale of ignorance and procrastination - I was just trying to get some good advice (which I did - thanks for those who posted graciously) and then make a decision based on that information.
Anyway I can see now that I'm trying everyone's patience here so I'll wrap this up one way or the other. Thanks to everyone who helped I really do appreciate it.0 -
He's a FTB, give the guy some slack. He's done more than a lot of FTB's I've ever known and gone looking for some decent advice rather than just trusting what he's been told. I wish I had looked into things more before I bought but I didn't and it's my own fault and I'm just grateful I wasn't ripped off.
It's a very daunting prospect buying your first property. I remember I was bricking myself throughout the entire process, making stuff up in my head that could go wrong (that so wouldnt come true but didnt stop me thinking it). The last thing I was thinking of was people would try to rip you off.0 -

Ghekko is the one who is MAD.
the vendor is an 'investor' and not even paying the service charges to leave them to this muppet, because his girlfriend is doing the conveyancing because she is in training?????
santa, santa, santa, pleeeeeeeeeeaaasseee let me meet people like Ghekko. pleeeeeeeeeeeaaasseee. it is an insult to our homeless this monkey has got a mortgage and looking to buy.
Steady on. I wasn't really having a go at Ghekko, more at the other people on the site, some of whom encouraged him to go through with the purchase in such unstable economic times. He could well have been a money saving muppet if he'd followed their advice.0 -
Ghekkomaniac - I have been supportive of you, as I know that sometimes you want to complete the transaction regardless. However, the issues with the furniture, the unpaid service charge, her unwillingness to allow further viewings and the fact that she won't talk to the EA all ring loud alarm bells. Not sure if she is mad, or just desperate for every penny possible. Either way, it's bad news.
Get some accomodation sorted for the next few Months, and start viewing other properties. Even if you are still thinking of proceeding, why not check out the other properties? You have nothing to lose but a few hours of your time. Don't just give up, treat this as a learning experience. And most importantly, keep us all posted. Despite some of the recent unpleasant comments, a lot of us genuinely care and are interested in hearing the outcome.
Godd luck.0 -

Hear hear!
The very best of luck to you and your girlfriend, ghekko. The most recent and harshest 'advice' may be for your own good blah... blah... etc etc. but had already been given earlier in the thread, albeit in a more respectful manner. It made a pleasant change to see people treating other posters like adults, rather than taking the all-too-common dictatorial approach.
Keep us updated and don't let a tiny minority spoil what was the touchiest-feeliest thread I've ever seen on here.↑ Things I wouldn't say to your face

what a fantastic thread. I have been reading it at work all afternoon (dont ask!)
I have just got home and logged on for an update and my heart did a leap of joy to see that there was a post I hadnt read.
I agree with the majority. Run as far and fast as you can from this property (but not before you have led her down the garden path and pulled the rug from under her....)
Out there is a property that will suit you much better and where you can start your life with your GF and not have that sour taste in your mouth. I guarantee that in the months and years to come, you will often think back to this episode and be forever thankful that you moved on to better things.
I had new carpet fitted in my hall, stairs and landing. It was a job badly done and the shop had to come back 3 times to re-fit and eventually fit a new one... do you know, I still hate that carpet even after 4 years.
You came on this site looking for advise and you have had it in abudance, and its all telling you the same thing. Are you listening?????
Please keep us all updated and good luck to you.I'm not wav  ing, I'm drowning!0 -

Yeah, perhaps you should have thought about that before assassinating his character.0 -
yeah, leave ghekko alone, he asked for advice, and it's up to him to decide what he wants to do. it's not fair to berate him because he's waiting to see how it all pans out and not doing what you think he should do.
one piece of advice is wait till the bitter end and try and get the price lowered, the other is to pull out now cos the sellers such a horror, another is to pull out cos the property isn't in what is considered the best location....
give the guy a break! Advice is just that, advice!0 -
Hey, thanks for an entertaining post.
I'm with the majority of all the other people that have added their thoughts, dont do it!!! The flat looks like a dog.
Alarm bells must be ringing with you that everyone seems to be saying the same thing.
Try and ignore the people who are being a bit abusive, maybe they are just frustrated with your inability to get a grasp on the fact that you shouldn't buy the place.
Houses are like cars, there are millions of them out there to buy and if you dont get the first one you like then another one you like will be just around the corner.
I know it seems like a good idea having a place of your own but if you read any of the financial news no first time buyer in their right mind would buy a place, certainly not at full asking price. A negative equity of 20k/30K/40k could cripple you for years. So play the game, offer 20/30/40K under asking and give yourself teh chance of a stress free future.
Be clever, buy low, sell high.
Good luck whatever you decide and let us know what happens.0
