  • I'm a new rep currently on campaign 5. Initially I was not too confident with the whole door knocking thing, but have since got better. I've been dropping books off, there's an attached label asking the people not interested to tick a box and I won't deliver any more. I also leave a calling card if people are not in, asking them to leave the brochure outside and I'll recollect. Despite all this I'm having real problems getting books back. Today I left a card after knocking and carried on. Someone else called at the house and the lady was in. She dramatically ripped the card up loudly announcing that she just doesn't want it and threw it on the ground. Reactions like this are why I don't like to keep knocking and asking for books. Any ideas?
Because I'm new I was just going to focus on the customers I get. I'm just a bit worried that it's not going to pay much. So far I've had 10 orders and I'm up to £138. I dropped a few more off today and have another couple of streets I can do.
  • Thats just plain rude!

I know what you mean about the books though, i just gave out my first lot and half of the people arent in, i keep knocking but still no reply so i dont know what to do about that..

Your lucky though, i had no orders :s
  • Also, how do i order the new mascara from the hello tomorrow cat? :s

That's rather extreme! I had a similar problem with a man and his sons he was rather rude and OTT. Afterall its not like you haven't included an opt out slip!

I've just finished my first campaign (my order is due to arrive Thursday - so exciting!!), and I have to say I lost a lot of books, I was given 40 and by the end I only had 15 books (thankfully my area manager gave me a few more!).

What I normally do is if the book isn't left out, I knock and if there is no answer I put a calling card through. When I arrive the second time, if there is still no book I knock one last time and then leave it. However I have made a note of all the houses that i've lost books at and won't be delivering to them next time, so hopefully I shouldn't loose to many books.

What we did with another catalogue company was if no answer and no book out leave a call back slip, if still not outside put another slip through saying its not too late to order and asking them to leave brochure out next day and then finally if no response i would leave a slip saying that if you would like to order please call me and leave a phone number. If i didn't hear from them they wouldn't get another book for a few months and then we would try again.

Its a lot of going back but initially i think its part of the establshing yourself routine and is important until you find your customers.

I still like the idea of doing Avon but the two systems operating and no guaranteed territory is putting me off at the moment.
We love what we are doing and we love why we're doing it!!
  • We had 1 woman that was really rude my son posted a book through the door and she opened the door and threw it on the floor  she is the only rude 1 ive had out of 5 streets,as for getting book back ive started to call back at about 6.00 as you get most people in then and they dont seem to mind.

I wonder how many they can give you? The first time I received 50, but for the next one I received 30.

I think with the rude people, yes they do seem to be few and far between but unfortunately they do seem to put a downer on the day. Wirelover I hope your son was ok. I'm planning on getting a badge "don't shoot me I'm only the Avon Lady!" What do you think? It's not an original a lady in America thought of it first.

ateotd we're all just trying to make some money not plotting world domination via Avon. (The rude woman could of done with some, just didn't want to say lol) :D

When you place your order you will have to add books, the rep only gave you some freebies to get you going, you will have to buy them yourself with your order

    Xmas Saver!
A friend of mine just started Avon b4 xmas, I popped roud, and the avon person was going through some of the rules and regs, and poined out that yes my friend will be given an allocated set of streets, but to look at family, work coleagues, her daughters friends (last yr of school), the impression I got was what you do outside ur allocated area, is grab as many extra customers as you can. x
xx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx

Mine said the same to me, I am very new to the area so unfortunately don't have that much of a network. Someone already does it at the mums and tots groups and I haven't really asked any of the mums when I pick up my daughter from preschool. I have mentioned that I do it, so if they want any info they can ask.

I'm going to focus on the customers I get and as someone mentioned b4 not drop at the non returners. Next campaign I have had the offer of a couple more roads so am going to try and build up that way.

How many customers do people think is adequate to make it worthwhile? I was thinking of aiming for 20 regs.
