Avon - Hints and Tips?

Options
Hello

Hope this is okay to post, it's just that I became an Avon Rep last week and was really surprised to find they don't have a forum of their own for Reps to share hints and tips.

It'd be fab if there was a thread that could be used instead, I'm sure there must be loads of us here on MSE?

Board Guides - is this thread okay to post?

Why then does it say on their recruitment pages

"visit the "online community" where you can chat to other top
    .
Representatives and Sales Leaders, hear their news and views and make
    . new friends."

Ahhhh I did think I'd heard of them having one and was then puzzled why I couldn't find it... but surely when you're starting out is when access to this would be really helpful?

It'd be good to get to PC soon. Must find out what I need to achieve first :)

My advice would be to keep good records of customers and what they buy, and you can then concentrate your efforts where you'll get the most return. By far the most fruitful way of selling was through the workplace. On top of that I would do brochure drops to houses in the neighbourhood. I would do the same row of houses twice, and if there was no sign of an order I wouldn't do a third. I would put the brochures through the doors in a freezer bag, with a note saying if they didn't want to order then leave it on their doorstep on such and such a night. This meant I could use the brochures more times.

When you do get an order make a point of engaging in a bit of conversation with the customer. This means that when you give them the brochure with the delivery you can draw their attention to any special offers etc.

When ordering, because you are usually running two campaigns at the same time, some things will be cheaper in one brochure so by ordering smartly you can maximise any earnings. Sometimes I'd pass this on to the customer.

I made a fair bit of money from Avon and it helped me through a difficult time. Hardest bit was not buying stuff for myself!

    Good luck with it!

    xx

My wifes on her 3rd campaign, its been quite good she got orders of £190, £324 and this one she has made £587 in orders !

What you want to do is have half your customers on the current brocure and half on the one behind, that way you are using your books twice.

Its hard work at the moment as you really have to do the legwork to get the customers by canvasing a whole street.

Your sales leader will have a good idea of areas as they have a colour coded map, and even may have customer lists from old reps, this has helped my wife out quite a bit.

Its alot easier and quicker to order everything online too.
  • The area you live in is the real key. At home In N.I I did Avon and left my area to my mum. In this order she had £1,200+ worth of orders (very typical to this time of year). Ive now started in Liverpool and I am 3 books in... my last order was only for about £60 at most and I have over 250 houses I was canvasing, now I know why I was told this area had a high turn over of reps! Its much harder bloody work here.

Good luck - I hope you have an area that will be kind to you as Avon really is great fun! :)

    Thanks everyone.

Ideas I'm using are to fold down certain pages to highlight them in the brochure and to put a note in the top box to say a freebie for orders of £20 or over, and then I'll buy an item for £1 or under (so you soend £1 to gain £4 or more commission)

I used to do it in my old area and lost loads of books when I just dropped then through the door. This time round, I'm knocking and asking people if they are interested and I've not (yet) lost a book so I can reuse them more (plus I think it helps that they know who I am)

I'm very lucky that I found the previous rep the other night and she said she'd get me a list of her customers from before :)

Sounds like your rep has told you that tip about folding pages, my wifes rep also said the same !

Its up to you but its a waste of time, i helped the wife fold some pages and it makes the books look tatty and she never got any orders from those pages, remember time is money.

She also leave a little printout with the books asking if they want them next time or not, and this also states when pickup and delivery will be, save alot of time writing out all the forms.

She usually deliveres books on a Friday, picks up books following Friday and then delivery is on a Friday, that way customers know when to expect her.

Yes, I'm starting to think it's a waste of time folding tha pages too.... it takes quite a bit of time as you say, and some of my books are coming back with the folded pages looking really dog-eared :(
