  • Petrol prices are so frustrating. Here in Sheffield for unleaded they hover around 129.9 atm but I use Costco as I work round the corner where it has been 126.7 but just dropped to 123.7. Pop across the Pennines to Hyde and Morrisons has been 123.9 for months. We went to Liverpool last month and I filled up at Costco for 119.7. Petrol price app is OK but whats the point of having to make a special journey to save probably 50p or a pound?

I live in north London and currently our Asda have reduced (!) their price to 124.7 for unleaded.

  • It's very frustrating to find fuel prices vary so much around the country and we have used the Petrolprices website for some years. It seems recently that Asda have equalised their prices, at least where we frequently travel - Hereford to London via Gloucester and Swindon - unleaded is 114.7p and diesel 125.7p in all these areas where there used to be a difference of 4 - 5p per litre from cheapest to most expensive. We also find that Asda is usually the cheapest anyway. An additional bonus is that if you go to the Asda website, use the shop locator and select a particular branch if there is a petrol station there it will display the current fuel price. Very handy and you might find a branch very close to the route you are planning to take and worth a short detour. Also useful for a quick trip to the loo or for a cheap coffee in the cafe!
  • I used to like this site but unless you pay for Premium Membership you don't get all prices. Some stations have a padlock on and option "Your account is currently set to Basic, you'll need a Plus account to access this feature of the service". This paid service would more than loose all my savings, so I think this site only gives limited help.

Petrol Prices is a waste of time now. I still get the email (just to keep track of the general trend of prices), but never visit the site any more, no point.
  • good to see tesco's up to their usual tricks conning their customers.
recently had their "spend £50 get 5p off a litre" (which was actually 10p last year).
however their fuel was 1p for petrol and 2p for diesel dearer than the nearest alternative supermarkets.
and then when this deal was on they also bumped up the prices another 1p each two days into the offer.

so in reality you were at best getting 3p off a litre.

its every time tesco's does a so called promotion. they always have to fiddle things to dupe their customers.
  • Even if it is 2p cheaper than their rivals it is still a promotion (but not quite as good as they are advertising), providing you don't have to travel far to get there. However, I never spend £50 in Tesco!

MSE Twitter headline: Asda cuts petrol by 3p a litre, diesel by 4p a litre

Articles elsewhere in the last couple of days have Asda Morrisons Sainsburys Tesco and others making these cuts.

  • Just went there, and can only find 'logic fools' ! Having Googled it, it is https://www.fuellogic.co.uk However as far as I can see it is only for business, and not individuals.
