Thanks for the reply! But yeah, that's right. Though I've probably visited most service stations (if not all) on the M62/M6/M74 and some of the slip roads into the stations are way way shorter than others, (some less that 1/4 mile even..especially if the car park spaces nearer the bulidings are full and you have to take a bay nearer the entrance)... and a lot of them go straight TO the S.S., no roundabouts involved (which is why I mentioned doing slower sspeeds for a mile or so, if you read back), eitherway, my car's done well over 177000 miles now...with the same turbo, so it pays to be careful! (oh yeah, and I usually do travel at *cough cough* 'high speeds')! *winks* + the fact I was only using the S.S.'s as an example, I live off a 60mph road, and often come from 60 to an almost immediate stop...I have to or I'll end up in a field! (I could go slower of course...but you sometimes you HAVE to rush)!0

The discussion page on www.KeepMoving.co.uk says:
"Unfortunately our contract to use the petrol price data has now expired and we have had to remove the data from the website. The links through from the various other pages should also have been removed at the same time, but some seem to have slipped through the net, for which our apologies for the confusion."
So the only source of current UK petrol price data that I am aware of is now www.PetrolPrices.com0 -
Hi Martin:money: (or whoever reads these)
It’s a fact that fuel prices are getting higher and higher and the government is happy to keep taking our money in tax and not investing it properly back into the transport infrastructure but I won’t start getting all political. Here is a way you can save money and also save the environment, a device that the American government actually give an IRS rebate for. This is something that is big in USA and Australia but it seems not to have kicked off here. I have tried this device on my large 4X4 and increased my Mpg by over 33%:j. If you have any questions contact me and I will try and answer them.

Ps it only cost me around £10 to make and is very simple. Uses the hydrogen from H2O :T0 -
In my neck of the woods there are alot of petrol stations / supermarkets who's petrol is cheap. However if taking into account that all the prices are the same which petrol station has the best loyalty points, whilst also forgetting the Sainsburies & Tescos instore spending of 5p off per litre...
Asda/Walmart seem to have been forcing prices down recently and I have the ASDA credit card which reduces the cost per litre by 1p (used to be 2p!)
I am aware that Shell also have a credit card where they offer 'x'p per litre reductions on their petrol.
Morrisions seem to have a resonable loyalty petrol card system where you get 1.5p per litre until you reach £5 and get to spend it as a voucher to spend instore. Note: Morrisons seem to have be removed from they loyalty points link.
Tesco offer clubpoints (although I'm not sure about if they offer the extra point(s) with the Tesco Clubcard Plus) when purchasing on petrol and can also be used with x4 promotion with selected suppliers.
Whilst not choosing petrol suppliers with loyalty points but if everything one has the same price??? Anyone know what the top loyalty offers for petrol?0 -
We can all moan as much as we like because it will never make any difference, besides all we English do is moan, moan, moan!! And even when we do decide to protest at the cost of fuel we can't even do that right!!! We end up with a few hundred lorry's taking part in an ORGANISED PEACEFUL gathering in London!!! Where does that get us? Nowhere!!! We should take a very close look at how the French do it, they give NO warning of what their protest will involve and they end up blocking major roads and cities!! This is the ONLY way to get the government to listen and take note. And as for the excuse that we hear all the time when the government out up fuel duty "it's for the environment"... "to encourage everyone to go green"... WHAT A BLOODY EXCUSE!!!! Correct me if I'm wrong but does everyone remember back in the 80's (or 90.s) when the government phased out 4 star fuel and introduced "Unleaded Fuel" telling us it was much more environmentally friendly and all the praise we saw on TV regarding this new clean fuel. If that was the case then why are we STILL hearing the SAME excuse about helping the planet and going green? When you look back at this then you will realise that no mater what clean fuel they bring in, even if they invented a fuel with ZERO emissions they would STILL give us the same excuse to tax us to the hilt!!!This would be like buying a ferrari and them saying; oh well we found out the V8 broke the drive shafts so we just put this lawnmower engine in instead. 99% of the people wont tell the difference and we save money on drive shaft replacements!!!:rotfl:0

Leaded petrol is poisonous, that's why it was phased out. !!!!!! all to do with the environment I'm afraid (in fact you can still buy it, and it wasn't phased out until 2000.0

They are still hitting us with the environmental excuses for raping motorists with extorcionate fuel prices.
Fair enough, leaded fuel was dangerous which is a fact, so they brought out unleaded fuel which is better for everyone and everything that breathes the air. Just as a quick sideline, they did this in the early 70's in the states, so we were miles behind with that move. I also remember a few years ago a scare about diesel fumes causing cancer, which seemed to fizzel out.
The problem I have is that the government are blaming environmental pressure and congesion on the ridiculous amount of money they happilly bump onto the price of fuel.
1. If they are really concerened about the environment, how much of the 65 odd % of the price of our fuel do they actually put towards finding a realistic/viable alternative. My guess is oh, 0%
2. They're also blaming conjestion, yet they have other "conjestion charging" schemes in place (effectively another motorist double-tax there then) and public transport is not up to the job. While on the subject, the other thing that annoys me about congestion charges is that electric cars and hybrids do not have to pay! This charge is supposed to be about conjestion, the space taken up on roads by vehicles. A prius takes up the same amount of space as a petrol car like a mondeo, so why should they get away with not paying, simply because they're a pesudo green car.
Do cars in Europe produce less CO2? Because they pay a lot less for fuel than we do, yet have the same environmental issues! Even the countries that appear to be paying more per litre are paying less because their fuel prices include their road tax.
For example:
On average in January we paid:
111.8 pence per litre (unleaded) 65.1% tax
113.7 pence per litre (diesel) 64.3% tax
118.8 pence per litre (super) 62.2% tax
This is up 25.5p, 15p, and 25.5p per litre respectively from January 2009. 25.5p in a litre up in 1 year! Also note that during the recessionary period, the prime minister promised not to increase fuel tax/duty, yet it went up at least 4 times that I can remember.
Compare these figures to the costs in Poland, January 2010, which include their fuel tax/duty and road tax.
95.9 pence per litre (unleaded)
88.3 pence per litre (diesel)
Why do we still have to pay so much, it is about time we took a stand! The government need to lower the cost of fuel or keep the prices the same and scrap road tax! This countries government disgusts me!0 -
Just as a quick note, I got my fuel prices from the AA web site.0

On the subject of petrol prices - when the VAT was lowered in January 2009, that would have in effect lowered the petrol price. It didn't because the government slapped an extra tax on so it maintained its price. So when the VAT went back up again this January, guess what happened to the extra tax ............. yup you were right - nothing.Thank you for reading this message.0
