Bah, Computer keeps dying so i apologise if this post appears twice..
- The more people that start Using LPG the more the government will tax it.. (had to get my moan in about the government) *grumble*
The thing with LPG is as you said it costs £2000 to install, so unless you have a half decent car that you are certain you want to keep for a long time it wont pay, and i dont know about anyone else, but if i had a half decent car i wouldn;t want someone chopping chunks of it around to install a new system in it..
But then there is the option of buying it already installed, saw a nice black ford KA on ebay this week.. only a couple of thousand and it was in nice condition with LPG already installed..Almost..debt free.. :P:money:0 -
The government say they are not making any more money out of the fuel because its just the oil price from the suppliers that are going up.. and not the tax rate.. But what about the extra VAT they have made? In the last year fuel has gone up in some places by about 50p per litre (diesel especially).. and based on VAT being 17.5% thats an extra 8.75pence per litre they're making.. - and me being a HGV driver that takes 550 litres to fill up the lorry (3 times a week) thats an extra £145 per week.. JUST in VAT for ONE lorry to work.. And they're not getting any extra revenue??? Hrmm..
Its about time we did somthing now..
edit - by the way, im not great with maths so i apologise if figures are wrong..
The price has gone up 32 pence a litre in a year, so the increase in VAT is about 4.8 pence
The proposed duty increase of 2 pence plus VAT was abandoned, and the one in the autumn would also be the same, which would have meant a planned increase of 4.7 pence a litre.
So yes it's an increase, but if the current protests succeed in cancelling the autumn change, and then the fuel price drops, then the taxman would be worse off than was in the Budget plans that were drawn up some time ago.0 -
Still doesn;t make my petrol any cheper!! :PAlmost..debt free.. :P:money:0

Hi I'm new to this so hope I'm doing it correctly. My husband and I have been forced into early retirement due to redundancy and ill health, so we had to make economies, we sold both our cars a Focus and KA. We have replaced them with a SMART car. Before you snigger the annual car tax is £35.00, it costs less to insure (£175), only £29.00 to fill up, cost us less than £10,000 to buy, is the new improved version with better safety suspension etc., does more than 50 mpg, is exempt from the congestion charge, is designed by Mercedes so is finished to high spec, has an electric softtop, has 2 years free smartcar recovery, is environmentally friendly and is great fun to drive. You would be amazed at how much you can get in the boot. We wish we'd bought one before, all those years spent driving cars with 3 empty passenger seats! It is good on long journeys but we can rent a larger car if needed. We are saving a fortune in fuel alone! There are many more economical cars about now with similar features that carry 4 people. We don't have to worry about going out now as it's so cheap to run! There is also a lot of waving from other smart car drivers and they have rallys.0

The best petrol saving 'extra' I found when I bought a new Astra is the Trip Computer. It's not too smart, but it has a display of 'instant' fuel consumption and it is very clear that just a gentle lift of the right foot can increase the mpg considerably.
When one backs off completly, for example, coming to a set of traffic lights, the display can go from 50- 57mpg tp 999.99mpg on the overrun.
If you keep a reasonably close eye on that, you can save money.
I've also recently got a TomTom SatNav and that shows current speed against speed limit. Given the known inaccuracy of car speedos, it's amazing how you can reduce consumption by keeping to the limits - it could also save points on your license and a fine.Regards

And the satnav also takes a few seconds to update.. and the speedos have to be slightly off to allow for certain things such as larger tyres/wheels fitted..Almost..debt free.. :P:money:0

In the main article about cutting petrol costs, it states,
"don't keep going after the petrol nozzle 'clunks', because you're overfilling."
But when I 'overfill', I get another 2 litres in the tank, so what's the reason for not overfilling?0 -
Extra weight in the car for one.. - more consumption.. But i think the main reason is that you're likely to spillAlmost..debt free.. :P:money:0

Blimey, I didn't realise that saving a bit of fuel was so dangerous, surrounded by people who are staring at too many instruments0
