  • Thank you both, I have my fingers crossed for tomorrow.

On the plus side I've managed to not spend any money on my credit card since I paid it off, but I don't want to get rid of it just in case I need it for an emergency.

I also have enough left over from my ppi claim to cover my living expenses for about 4 months even if I don't work.

Also on the plus side the job I am starting that lasts until almost Xmas is about 1/4 mile away so no commuting expenses, it's 3 days a week, but as it pays a bit more than the last job I should be able to keep my savings more or less intact up to Xmas.

  • I hope that you get good news tomorrow. Great that you still have enough PPI redress in savings to cover you for a bit.

  • It is great that I have the money if I need it, but also an indicator of just how stupid money wise I have been in the past. My main aim is to not let myself get back in the situation of credit cards and consolidation loans as it meant I spent a long time wasting money with nothing to show for it.

  • Lesson learnt and all that so don't give yourself too hard a time. What is the plan when the loan is gone?

  • The plan is
    1. Not to take out another loan (current one was for a new car),
    2. Use up what I have before I buy more stuff.
    3. Sell/donate/throw out the stuff I have that I don't need any more.
    4. Save up to buy things I need in the future.

To these ends and to try and help me I have joined the cluttering and sealed pot threads.

  • So, I have got a new job subject to references, it's a fixed term for 2 years. I have to give my temp agency a month's notice, so I should hopefully start at the beginning of February.
I now need to sort out a new budget for my new job and make sure I can stick to it.

Excellent news on the job, and I fortunately will have just about enough spare (non savings) money to keep me going until my first proper pay day. I got paid on 27th December, next get paid 17th January as I haven't worked for two weeks, my line manager didn't need me in as he is off and temps don't get paid leave. Start back next week, by which time I'm hoping I have a written job offer so I can hand my notice in officially.
Once I've got that I need to confirm my last day with the agency, as I'm not sure what the rules are regarding accrued leave - do I get it paid at the end of the contract or do I take it before I leave? Still, not worth worrying about until I get the contract.

Oh, and I have made another payment on my loan so only 3 more left!
