As previously hinted, Ford Money Flexible Saver 2.5% has gone 'no longer available' (NLA) to 'new customers'.  Flexible Savings Account - Easy access savings | Ford Money

I'm not certain if that actually means to new customers or to new applicants.
I know it's possible but I doubt there are many existing customers who don't already hold the Flexible Saver.
They have confirmed it's precisely what they say - it is available to existing customers.

  • Applied for the Al Rayan account. Do they send you an account opening confirmation by email or do they insist on sending a letter by post?

Mine got stuck at step 4.
I called them and they set up account, gave me Sort code and account number.
Plus told me to select option 2 on the app.
    Log in with account number.
Call and set up took 10 mins max.

As mentioned above, I applied and the only options provided were to transfer the initial deposit via online banking or post a cheque, then they’d write back to confirm the account is open, which I thought was a bit archaic.

However, if you download the Al Rayan App (worked for me fine on an iPhone) and register that way it sets the account up and I’ve already transferred cash into the saver this morning.
  • Just to add, I had no issues originally applying for the account on Al Rayan website

and when verifying my identity on the app I chose option 2 and provided the same details as the initial application, all worked fine.
  • Sainsbury Bank Defined Access Saver (Presently top choice on MSE for instant savings):

Alert: Any future interest rate increases won't be applied to your account.

This will be obvious to some people, but not all. Your account will have an "issue number" in its name. As interest rates rise, Sainsburys wont increase the interest rate. Instead they will launch a new product with the same name but a higher "issue number". Your account will stay as it is and the only way to benefit from the higher rate will be to open one of the new accounts and transfer your money across.

My experience of trying to do this has been terrible. Attempt to open latest "issue" account online led to an error and a recommendation to call. Telephone wait time then 45 minutes. Once connected, they did sort it out.

Note, when you try to call Sainsbury, the automated system will tell you that if there are any interest rises applicable to your account they will contact you about it. (So, go away.) But, as is clear from the above, this is disingenuous and - I think - deceptive. It contradicts the point that interest rates will not be increased on accounts with the same issue number, which is stated when you apply. So there will never be any interest rises on your account for you to contact them about.

If you believe you can, you will. If you believe you can't, you won't.

They seem to do this a lot. Ford money keep doing the same. I can only assume that they can't handle a large volume of applications in a small space of time.
