Tried an alternative current account, still no joy. Funny, reading comments on here Ford Money appears to be an easy account to open and operate.

Really wanted to open account just for the £1 and see where we go forwards.

I opened one for myself a few days ago, and despite my nominated account being with with the same bank as my mother, I didn't encounter any problems (opened quickly, easily etc.), but today for my mum, as detailed, no go...?!

Now opened. Give it another go for you mother.

    Thanks.
Yes, worked fine this time - seems that they have sorted out their previous problem. :)

Looks like Santander have pulled the plug on their 2.75% eSaver limited edition already and lowered to 2%.
I take you missed the earlier posts on the closure of issue 1 and opening of issue 2 on Monday and Tuesday then.
I went back a few pages but obviously not far enough, the thread was diluted with comments unrelated to interest rates.
I agree that this thread, and a few others, have lost the discipline that supports an easy follow of interest rate movements and discussion.

Too much chat around account opening issues with various providers also tends to dominate and hide genuine useful information.

I refer the honourable members to the thread title - 'The Top Easy Access Savings Discussion Area'.

I can cope with chasing the best interest rate but.. looking forward to my wife dealing with it on her own after the inevitable worries me. Which are the providers who play the fairest without intervention?
That depends what you mean by playing fair without intervention. If you mean which providers give consistently high interest rates without having to move money around; I don't think there is one, as can be seen by the constantly changing top ten.

If you mean which providers have seamless transition on death; your best bet is to use joint accounts.

I'm not sure there is anyone. Building societies might be your best bet, but even they will chance their luck at reclassifying it as a legacy account and dropping the interest to near zero.

    Just got that email myself.
They are 2 weeks to late.
    Santander got the cash.
Now time to call Al Ryan, or switch cash again.

That rate is for monthly profit.
    Expected Profit Rate (EPR)

    2.80% AER/Gross p.a. - Annual Profit
    2.80% AER / 2.76% Gross p.a. - Monthly Profit

  • This is good , it now brings my Gatehouse rate up along side the Santander and Cynergy I have. I will wait a little while for Al Rayan's response. However after the BoE rate meeting i'm going to funnel some off into a 1 year fix so I could use some of AR balance for that
  • I'm getting tired moving money around all over the place.
It would be nice, if these banks stated they would within 3 days of BOE rate rise, increase their rate by BOE+whatever.
A bit like they do with mortgages!
