  • It goes to show how inept the BOE are.  They already had a heads up on what Kwarteng was going to do, thanks to his meetings with Andrew Bailey, yet they still went only 0.5% yesterday.

One member voted for 0.25. They need to get a grip.

  • No rate increases as a result of yesterdays BR increase with tandem or Zopa….shame as they’ve been first off the blocks on the last few BR increases!

Consensus had been the BoE is not fit for purpose, overly concerned in maintaining the housing market over controlling inflation. The latest set of actions from the government and treasury look more like a coordinated effort to tank the pound.

I was hoping that Zopa might increase their rates today, but I just noticed their reply to someone's tweet asking about this:

"Our smart saver accounts were recently increased on the 13th of September. There is currently no scope to increase the amount again this month. We will inform everyone publicly when this is due to change again."

YBS have announced they are increasing the rate on their Internet Saver Plus issue 12 on 5/10/22 to:
    1.8% below £10k
    2% between £10k and £50k
    2.05% above £50k

    Full list of increases: https://www.ybs.co.uk/boe-rate-change

Also they've withdrawn the family saver account, which has now risen by 0.3% for all interest tiers.
The same rates also apply to Issue 11.
I opened issue 12 with £1 in case the increases only applied to the latest account but it seems the previous one is always being updated as well.
I am flamboozled as to why YBS bothered to bring out issue 12, when it has kept an identical interest rate to issue 11 for its entire existence.
They did the same with iss 10 & 11 but later dropped the rates on iss 10, so... we know what to expect.

Yorkshire BS-Tiered** Intrnt Svr Plus iss 12  is still available but not according to the above post  which says it has been withdrawn in the Note below.
**Note: YBS 2.05% wef 07/10 upto £10k with w/d restrictions now NLA*:  Savings Account - More Information | YBS

I believe the above post refers to the fact that the Family Savings Account has been withdrawn, not the internet saver issue 12.
Correct. I would have said it would be clear if the OP clicked the link... but YBS unhelpfully doesn't name the account it made NLA in the linked page.

That 2nd link did take you to the Family Saver but it was a 'footnote' below the previous issues, to show savers who have less than £10k that they can/could get a better rate than the lower tier in the main issues, 10 and then 11.

eta: I've added the account name to my post for clarity now.

Oh dear. Goodbye Zopa then because they will be left behind pretty sharpish if they maintain their current rates, indeed they already have been and it's only been 1 working day since the boe increase.  Shame, I like them. For that reason I'll give them till the end of next week to surprise us...

If zopa's easy access isn't at least 2.1% in two weeks when my pots revert to access, I'm off. Waiting for an increase is pointless when it's easy to move money around.
