By the way, many of us were on the Santander Easy Access Saver whose rate dropped last month and moved on
but what also annoyed me was their app update a few weeks ago , meant that fingerprint log in was no longer supported
Ok, I'm on Android 9 - (Android support ended Jan 2022)  but the coincidence didn't help.
For now,  First Direct, Atom  and Zopa still support fingerprint on my phone
which otherwise I have no need to replace .
Not a reason to upgrade in itself,  but I do like the faster log in compared to using a pin.
Thing is it costs companies more money to support the older versions of Android/iOS along with the newer versions so they stop supporting the old versions.

You say you are using version 9 of Android, the current version is 14 (general release wise). So you are 5 releases behind.

I imagine at some point your other apps may not be fully supported either so at some point you may want to upgrade your phone.
Mine's android 9 too but I've no intention of getting a new phone yet, I don't like parting with money at the best of times.

My logic is that if it still does everything I need it to do then I'll keep using it either until it breaks or getting a new phone will enable me to recover the cost of the new phone in the long run, e.g. I can't currently get the HSBC app on my phone but if they launched a switching offer/reward account that I was eligible for which I could only get if I used the app I'd then consider getting a new phone.
Fair enough but don't you make money with all the regular savings accounts etc to help pay for a better phone? 😜🤔

There's little point in working hard to generate extra money if you then just go and give it away to some mega corporation in return for no particular benefit to yourself.

What any one of us considers a benefit to themselve is an individual thing.

Good logic. No point spending money on something that you don't need.

Its not always about needing. I like and 'want' new tech. I will quite happily pay £1k+ for a phone and I can afford to do so because I save on other things and generate good income by using sites such as this. I guess its all about priorities and the ways in which we decide to spend our money and enjoy our lives.

The Oxbury Easy Access Account Limited Edition 1: 5.02%AER has reappeared. Minimum £20k.
I clicked through on this account.  Buyer beware, and read the Oxbury summary carefully: the minimum opening balance is £20,000, but you receive NO interest on the first £20,000 of your savings, whatever the balance.  Even if you had £500k of spare cash, you would get the 5.02% only on £470k, so the real rate is anywhere between 0% and 4.7188% on the full balance.

Yes in plain English that is indeed what they state, but then immediately give an example of how much interest one would earn on a £20,000 deposit over 1 year - they calculated £1,004 with an end of year balance of £21,004.

So despite the unfortunate wording, appears one does get the full interest rate of 5.02% on £20,000+, although I have no doubt zero interest would be earned on £19,999.99!

    Ulster Loyalty Saver.
This might be a useful info for those who never tried larger withdrawals yet.
I used to make payments from this account to some of my RSs, but never exceeded £3k per day. Yesterday I was trying to withdraw a larger amount and discovered that the system don't let me withdraw more than £3k per day.  Tried this morning again and it didn't let me withdraw anything saying that I've already used my £3k limit.  I used chat, they explained me how to increase my limit and my problem was solved.
This is what I've learned from this experience:
    1. Default setting is £3k for app and £2k for online per day, but can be manually changed to up to 20k per day.
    2. Ulster's "day" can be more than one day.  Weekend+bank holiday is counted as one day. My £3k allowance was stretched from Saturday to Monday (3rd June is a bank holiday in Ireland).

Good warning. My default was £750(!) when I tried to withdraw last week.

My limit is £20k, with the same kind of weekend restrictions you describe. I can’t remember that I ever did anything special to get the £20k limit so no idea how I got it.But it is obviously possible to have the max

Think that's the default like if you use the card reader or setup biometrics you can increase the limit?
