I've said NO first time and it asked me to allow it on my phone. I couldn't find how to do it, so deleted the app, started from scratch and this time selected "this time only", this worked. I don't know why I've selected "don't allow", probably because banks never asked for this before.Middle_of_the_Road said:
Is this really a negative attribute as far as security is concerned? I gave permission "only while using the app"CuparLad said:
It appears you also need to enable Location Services to even use the App to "prevent fraud". Since none of the other 22 banking apps I have need to track my exact location in order to work, I'll give this one a miss.friolento said:Wheres_My_Cashback said:

Coventry BS have finally launched their own app (mentioned in their members blog) - installed the android version, registered and it seems to work fine.

Can I ask which VPN you favour?charlie12525 said:
I've recently done a lot of online banking with a number of banks/ building socs from Thailand. If I had any problems logging in etc then I turned my vpn on and had no further problems.flaneurs_lobster said:
I'm going to be doing my next monthly funding of 20-odd RS accounts from somewhere south of Hanoi (at least, that's the plan). Be interesting if my location sets off any alarms.CuparLad said:
Absolutely it is, if the website can operate without the need to know where a customer is, but the App cannot. 22 other financial organisations don't have the need for this. As I say, I'll pass. It's a personal choice.Middle_of_the_Road said:

Unless you are using a VPN, then (banking) websites know from the IP address where you are. I had Yorkshire BS flag up some transactions because I was in Japan.CuparLad said:

Nice that there is a Coventry App, working totally fine. Usually I prefer an app over online banking and have from any bank or building society I have an account with the app installed if there is one. None of them ever asked me for location services or mandated it to be active. Some may have not specifically asked and I now need to go through permissions of each app to check in more detail.

Anyhow, Coventry will be the only one I will not use. None of their business to know where my phone currently is and don't see what this should have to do with safety either. They not even allow approximate location, has to be precise.
The best app for safety is still "Brain", runs on average 80-85 years. It may have it's times where it doesn't operate properly when too much of certain substances numb it's operation, leading to unpredictable outcomes at times. (I prefer Whisky for hibernation mode
) Unfortunately, too many people have lost the ability to properly use it and only know one of the endless modes it provides - "Blame".
"Blame" certainly is one of the easiest modes the app provides, and set by default to" somebody else must be responsible".
In all honesty, some people do not deserve better than to learn the hard way, as sad as it really is. Really looks like that nowadays "Health & Safety" can be used as THE killer argument for all and everything. Common sense does seem to be a species more and more threatened by extinction.
Rant over, I'll go back into my off topic cave.

I have 10 other banks that I do have the app for purely for the ease of switching, I keep a spreadsheet on the balances of my accounts and changed the update from 23 December 2023 to today. Very little change as well I knew
My brain still keeps me reasonably up to date and it's 84 years old.
If anything goes wrong with anything I do I only have myself to blame4 -
Although not one of the top EA accounts at the moment, Principality will be launching an Online Bonus Double Access account at 5% (includes a 0.15% bonus for a year), replacing their Online Double Access Issue 2 at 4.85%. It could possibly be one to open speculatively just on the off chance it becomes competitive.7

10am this morning Tandem sends me a 30 day notification of top up rate decrease by 0.10 % as of 6th March.... 10 past midnight on 6th Feb Tandem thanks me for topping up my rate to the lower one that's supposed to start in March. Signing into app confirms rate has dropped.
Bye bye Tandem.1 -

P.S. They also launched a new ISA version3 -
That's a bit sneaky. I had an email from them on 2nd Feb saying my top up will expire on 3rd March and to renew it. I haven't bothered as there's only £1 in the account, am getting better rates elsewhere.13zero8 said:10am this morning Tandem sends me a 30 day notification of top up rate decrease by 0.10 % as of 6th March.... 10 past midnight on 6th Feb Tandem thanks me for topping up my rate to the lower one that's supposed to start in March.
