If you're looking as I did to transfer over from an existing account: open the new account, then go to Account services > Close an account > select the account you want to close, you will then get the option to transfer to the new account as you close the previous account. You don't have to withdraw from your old account to your "linked account" and then pay it back into the new account, as I initially suspected.

If you wish to catch my attention please remember to tag me (@ircE) so I get a notification.

10am this morning Tandem sends me a 30 day notification of top up rate decrease by 0.10 % as of 6th March.... 10 past midnight on 6th Feb Tandem thanks me for topping up my rate to the lower one that's supposed to start in March. Signing into app confirms rate has dropped.

    Bye bye Tandem.
That's a bit sneaky. I had an email from them on 2nd Feb saying my top up will expire on 3rd March and to renew it. I haven't bothered as there's only £1 in the account, am getting better rates elsewhere.
Just did a live chat with them and this was their response:

We are aware of this and we are currently investigating this. Unfortunately, there is no information that I can provide as of yet. We kindly ask that you return later this afternoon/ tomorrow where we hope to have more information.

In addition if you send them a secure message you can ask them to distribute the final balance between multiple Principality accounts/your nominated account. I've done this a few times when closing regular savers whose rates had fallen behind.

I've only got £1 in my tandem. I got my spending money in santander EA and the rest of my loot in 1/2/3 fixes.

Coventry BS have finally launched their own app (mentioned in their members blog) - installed the android version, registered and it seems to work fine.

Very quick to install and set up on Android, one device only permitted.

App not working if you use NordVPN
It appears you also need to enable Location Services to even use the App to "prevent fraud". Since none of the other 22 banking apps I have need to track my exact location in order to work, I'll give this one a miss.
Is this really a negative attribute as far as security is concerned? I gave permission "only while using the app"
Absolutely it is, if the website can operate without the need to know where a customer is, but the App cannot. 22 other financial organisations don't have the need for this. As I say, I'll pass. It's a personal choice.
I'm going to be doing my next monthly funding of 20-odd RS accounts from somewhere south of Hanoi (at least, that's the plan). Be interesting if my location sets off any alarms.
I've recently done a lot of online banking with a number of banks/ building socs from Thailand. If I had any problems logging in etc then I turned my vpn on and had no further problems.
Can I ask which VPN you favour?
I've been using Nord VPN for years, and I find it the best. There is a good deal on at the moment.

  • Ok 0.1% doesn’t make much difference but I bet tandem have had an influx of withdrawals .I have most of mine in Santander at 5.08% but even so 0.18% is better than nothing.
  • I haven't got anything in Tandem but the account is still open, they still send me messages. I don't know why you need to leave £1 in the account.

It's more common for an easy access account to have a minimum balance of £1 than £0 so leaving £1 in is just playing on the safe side and saves the hassle of having to look it up !

I use both windscribe and tunnelbear extensions on chrome browser. Both are free.

Chorley Easy Access Saver (1 Withdrawal) NLA

    Goes down from 5.3% to 5.1% from19th February 2024.

Note that it seems those with the NORTH WEST & LOYALTY EASY ACCESS SAVER account that you will be affected too as I received the same email.

Chorley have renamed the NORTH WEST & LOYALTY EASY ACCESS SAVER account to Chorley Easy Access Saver (1 Withdrawal) (effective this month - bottom of page here https://www.chorleybs.co.uk/savings/interest-rates-for-withdrawn-accounts/)
And seem to be saying that the conditions for both the original and changed name accounts are the same even though notification about change of conditions only went out about the Chorley Easy Access Saver (1 Withdrawal) in October, not mentioning the NW & Loyalty account and Chorley were referring to the accounts differently in October and the accounts started with different minimum balances required.

Email from Chorley BS 19 October 2023 -
Important information regarding your Easy Access Saver (1 withdrawal)
We're writing to let you know of some changes to your Easy Access Saver (1 withdrawal account).
From the 18th December 2023, if you choose to make more than one withdrawal, the account will be transferred to our Chorleian account and will no longer revert to your Easy Access Savers (1 withdrawal) account in the following January.  Please note that the Chorleian account is an easy access account with no withdrawal restrictions.

    Email from Chorley 20 October 2023 -
Important information regarding your Easy Access Saver NW & Loyalty (1 withdrawal)
We're writing to let you know of a change we have made to your Easy Access Saver NW and Loyalty (1 withdrawal account).
We have increased the maximum balance of this account to £500,000. The maximum holding by any one person in respect of all savings accounts with the Society is £500,000. For details of all of our savings accounts please visit our website.
