Maybe they have added security around setting up a new linked account to transfer your money out to, but this isn't obvious with the ease with which I set up my linked account (only security was on the other end within the linked account app).

Lock the SIM with a PIN code.

I’ve had exactly the same experience with no contact from tandem at all. 

I’m also in the same situation, applied about 5pm yesterday. No contact from Tandem.

Not really any choice at all. I have a fairly recent android phone but all the banks I have accounts with have 'updated' their apps so they no longer work on my phone. This was not my choice & I don't think it's reasonable to be expected to buy a new phone every time they do this.

Backwards compatibility seems to be an unknown concept to the current tranche of programmers ( and the updates have nothing to do with security).

Requires £50,000 minimum balance. £1 - £49,999 is a pretty dire 2.10%.

I have a question about opening savings accounts and credit file/history. I'm aware that opening a current account is likely to lead to a hard search on your credit file. Is the same true when opening an easy access savings account? In particular, I'm thinking of opening the Tandem account, but also nervous since I'll need to apply for a mortgage fairly soon. Thanks in advance for your responses.

Applying for savings accounts won't result in a hard search.

Just opened up an account with Tandem and have the 5% account set up. I manually transferred 1p using the sort code and account number, yet the money's not gone through. How long does it usually take?
