Not near a branch, but any updated rate is not on their website.2010 said:From NBS tracker T& C.
When the Bank of England Base Rate changes, the new interest rate on your account will apply no more than 5 working days after the change is effective. We will not provide notice of this in writing, new rates will be displayed in our branches and on our website, newcastle.co.uk.
As pointed out earlier by @futuristic. (just noticed)0 -
Security updates and OS updates are kinda different.gt94sss2 said:
Off topic so apologies but some Android phones are now officially supported for 5 years
If you are on Android 10 but still receiving security updates, it won't help you run software that needs Android 11.
They have said four generations, which I think is optimistic. I bought a phone where the manufacturer announced they would support it with one update and it never came out in the UK and it ran dog slow. My current phone was promised an update & they gave up.
Samsung puts the utmost importance on providing Galaxy users with the latest mobile experiences possible as long as hardware specifications for upgrades are met and the experience can be optimized.
Android has become ridiculous in terms of memory requirements in the last couple of years, if that continues then depending on how much you fork out for your phone you may only get two updates out of them.

Trying to pay into Tandem from Santander, the transaction was blocked and they've locked me out of online banking and the app.
Test transfer went through, then £5k payment but was shut down trying to make another payment. I know we're supposed to be grateful for the security but I'd really rather not have to waste so much of my time trying to get access to my money restored.

For info - You can make individual payments of up to 25k from the Santander app - so the £5k payment could have been larger reducing the number of transactions.BestSeagull said:Trying to pay into Tandem from Santander, the transaction was blocked and they've locked me out of online banking and the app.

I'm having problems too. Opened the Tandem account a couple of hours ago, linked my Halifax account and transferred £100 no problemBestSeagull said:Trying to pay into Tandem from Santander, the transaction was blocked and they've locked me out of online banking and the app.

Just withdrew £10k from Chip in to my Halifax and then tried to add it to Tandem and it failed twice. I couldn't confirm the transaction in the Halifax account - the account details were all in red and the submit button was greyed out so I had to manually cancel the transaction.
Tried again with £5k this time and the approval went through fine with Halifax, but it failed it the Tandem app. Not a great start.
Update -
Just tried again with £5k, looked like it was going through OK but it eventually failed in the Tandem app.1 -

Thanks. So I would have been better sending £10k in the first place? I thought smaller transactions might be less likely to be blocked... not so.gt94sss2 said:

I'm up and running again now but that's the best part of two hours of my life that I won't get back again.0 -
Multiple transactions are more likely to be blocked. So the fewer there are the better to reduce the risk of having your account blocked.BestSeagull said:

Santander allow customers to make £100k of faster payments in 24 hours (per Santander account).
So you can do 4 * £25k via the app - or call them up to do a single larger one1 -
Small test payments immediately followed by large payments can trigger fraud sensors as it's the type of thing scammers would do to test an account.BestSeagull said:

I made a £25K first payment to Tandem yesterday from Santander as a new payee via the app. There were about a dozen security Qs to answer, but all went through OK.1 -
You could access app through tablet if anything were to happen to your phone.Bridlington1 said:
I don't think it's just you. I think a lot of people are sceptical of app based banking for similar reasons to why many were skeptical of online banking when it first came about.BestSeagull said:

Why would people not be comfortable with app only banking.BestSeagull said:
I think there are going to be a huge amount of people, even those who are rate chasers, who are not comfortable with App only banking. So the field is still wide open for the rest.Zopa_Trooper said:I'm wondering whether anybody else will bother challenging Tandem now. The BoE bank raise was 0.25%, anybody exceeding Tandem is going to have to raise their rate by nearly 0.5%. A step too far?I prefer it, as it makes logging in far easier, especially with face recognition.
Personally whilst I'm comfortable using an app only bank, I'm still not the biggest fan of app only banking largely because with online banking if my smartphone breaks, I can still log into online banking through my laptop whilst I get a replacement, with app only I'd have to source a new phone before I could access my money. Also if a new version of the app comes out that isn't compatible with my smartphone I will run into issues. I also type much quicker on a laptop than I do on a phone, so I usually find using any sort of webchat much quicker if it is an online webchat rather than an app based webchat, but this is just personal preference really.
I'll still quite happily use an app only bank and have been using the likes of Chip and Tandem for a number of months, but I do still prefer to have the option of online banking as a failsafe option if possible.4
