Opened a Hanley Economic branch saver instore. Took 15 minutes. Even received online banking details within an hour via email. They have a mobile app too which is good to see.

Deposits can be made via debit card as well FP, SO, cheques etc. Withdrawals are not as bad as I thought; you can set up a nominated account and ask for payments to be sent across over the phone.

Overall very good service especially with such a big gap to the next best rate.
I'm chancing my luck by posting in the forms - hoping they'll open it for me. Did they tell you which number to call to request withdrawals over the phone please? They told me that the passbook must be present for the branch saver withdrawals to be processed, but I'm wondering if perhaps I need to speak to a different team to organise that.

They told me to phone the local branch and that the passbook was not required to withdraw. They did complete a form to link a nominated account, which I also had to sign.
@Karlie88 Did they say in particular which branch to call please? In order to help me decide how much to deposit, based on ease of withdrawal, I just called a couple and asked - the response was they can never take verbal instructions to move funds to a nominated account, they require the passbook and a wet signature through the post.

I rang yesterday and was also told withdrawals only in writing with passbook.  Also, that any bank transfers to nominated account for amounts over £10,000 would be made by CHAPS and so would incur a £25 fee.  Cheques, of course, would be free of charge.

Thanks for sharing this - I shouldn't be surprised really as that is in line with the product summary, but it is a bit disappointing. I think I'll leave it at the minimum £1,000 balance, and wait for them to improve it by allowing access to funds in that account through the app. 0.25%, or even 0.5% probably isn't worth the loss of convenience for me especially as I would need to withdraw funds towards the end of each month for RSs.

FP wise, it seems there is also a minimum of £500, and if less than that they impose a £10 fee! https://thehanley.co.uk/savings-accounts/savings-account-service-charges/

Did anyone else get an email from Zopa today about its auto saving feature? I'm assuming this won't be something automatically switched on as default?

Received it yesterday.  I doesn't say anything about turning it into a default feature.

Chorley BS 3.70%. Easy Access Saver. (Good news, as it might push a few other saving providers higher.)

Takes up to 48 hrs for payments to be shown on your account! Hopefully it won't be quite that long. Interest is credited from receipt. Have just sent my initial deposit.

I've decided Atom aren't in need of my funds at the moment so have just emptied my E/A pot into Marcus instead. when there was 0.1% difference in rates I wasn't overly fretty about it - 0.3% difference is a step too far though! I'm leaving Atom with £1 as I'll need the account when my fixes end rather than having to bounce money all over the place.

  • My Marcus account still has just a £1 in it because, despite the latest increase, my money is in accounts of the same or higher rate already 🤷‍♂️

You can rescue the lonely £1 if you want. Atom permit a zero balance in the Instant Saver. Mine has been empty since early April.
