Though I have experienced blocks and account freezes from both HSBC and VM for moving money to other accounts in my name. Name any bank and someone will have had a payment held up by them.

Perhaps I am lucky (?!).   I have never had any problem in moving money between Santander, Virgin Money and First Direct (HSBC).   Most movements are under £100 but sometimes they are greater.

Thank you for reading this message.

I saw many posts about Santander's attractive rate on here a few days ago.

Please note some forumites have experienced issues (in the form of random locks/blocks) moving money out of a Santander account to other bank/Fintech accounts:

Taking many a phone calls and days to unlock/unblock.

Just something to bear in mind.

Although judging by reports on this forum Santander do seem to block accounts payments fairly frequently they are by no means the only ones to do so and this shouldn't put you off taking advantage of better rates should they decide to offer them IMHO.
This wasn't any old block. The Op of that thread endured something like a 4 day block.

The blocks you're talking about done by any bank lasts until the next business day 5pm. This wasn't the case for op of that thread and a few other posters sharing their experience.

Btw, I wasn't telling anyone not to make use of the higher rate at Santander. That's how come I said 'something to bear in mind'. Particularly if you're moving large sums out of Santander.

If anyone has experienced similar (4 day block) when moving large amount of money perhaps they can tell us. Comparing any old block to the one experienced by the forumite in that thread is comparing apples with pears.

My HSBC block lasted 23 days. Virgin lasted 5 days.

Without details it's hard to get any perspective. Was it moving money out of HSBC and Virgin?. What sums are we talking? Did you follow up with them? Was it complete radio silence (which signals AML)?
Did you complain? What was the outcome?

I used to get this a lot with Santander in particular with transfers to Investec, but it seems to be OK now.

    Shawbrook raise their EA account

    now on website:

    Gross
    3.26% Annually
    3.21% Monthly

Mine is still showing as 3.02%
If you're on issue 33 (the latest issue) then the rate should update automatically but if you're on a previous issue then you might have to switch to issue 33 to get the higher rate if they don't apply the increase to previous issues.
Looking at the website now,  34 is the latest issue for Shawbrook. I'm on 33 too so will ask for the upgrade.

I've experienced these problems with First Direct, Lloyds, TSB and Al Rayan.  I have to say that conversations with Al Rayan were different, very short, no silly questions, they were just making sure that my £1 test sent previously arrived to a designated bank account and confirming that it was me who made a payment.
I've been with Santander since 2010 and never experienced any problems, not yet :)
Anyway, I think it's a better practice to keep IA cash in more than one bank.
